What the hell was up with that horrible angle with Roddy Piper and Vince Russo regarding the death of Owen Hart???? That was the most tasteless thing I've ever heard. Way to go Jarrett!!! You put your federation in the hands of an idiot like Russo, and this is what happens??? What a failed investment.

Now, I didn't see what Vince Russo did that you guys are talking about, but it was probably in poor taste. Vince McMahon on the other hand didn't know what else to do. I mean really, you have millions of paying customers who purchased the PPV and all those people in the stadium that night. Though someone did die, you know as well as I do, some large group of assholes would have screamed and yelled if Vince cancelled the show.

Actually, Clerk, it's being claimed that the Piper promo was a legitimate shoot, and that Russo actually had no idea Owen's name would be brought up, especially in that matter (namely, Piper blaming Russo, then head writer of the then WWF, of concocting the stunt that ultimately took Owen's life). <P> Trust me, I do NOT want to defend Russo; if it was an angle, it's yet another example of Russo's tastelessness. But if it was a shoot, then I really have to question Piper's reasons for even raising the issue. If it's to sell more copies of his recently released book, then it's a cheap, disgusting way to go about doing so. <P> <P>

He said suspending Owen above the ring wasn't wrestling, and then accused Russo of never calling Hart's family to see how they were doing. Piper then took off his jacket, revealing a shirt with the names of wrestlers that passed away. Piper then said he was there because wrestling was supposed to be about entertaining fans in the ring. <P>

It is not that simple.

I think Vince made the right decision. And so do most people in the industry as well as the other wrestlers including the ones that performed after his accident.

What was he going to do?? Shut down and just send everyone home??? What explanation would you give to the audience???

Annouce that Owen died??? yeah that would go over well. I am sure Owen's family would LOVE to find out Owen died by a national announcement by Vince.

Plus how many CHILDREN were there live and watching at home??? I how can you make that annoucement with all the children there???

But lets say you don't say that, and say Owen suffered an injury so we won't continue. You think the live crowd would accept that??? a Bunch of rowdy Wrestling fanse only 2 matches away from the main event!?!?!

Wrestlers get injuried ALL the time, you think the crowd would go crazy if they just stopped the show!!! And I am sure the PPV companies would have loved to take the MILLIONS of phone calls asking for a refund.

Yes Owen's death was tragic and aweful.

However you must be practical. Vince made the right decision, And did what he thought was best.

I am in no way shape or form defending anything that Vince McMahon has done. He was completely wrong to go on with the show after Owen died. I am a huge critic of McMahon. I am always the first to admit when he does something in bad taste (which is far too often). Especially when Owen died. Even worse, how about the night after Brian Pillman died. He had his widow Melanie on Raw crying. <P>
This is about Jerry Jarrett and Vince Russo. Jarrett was supposed to provide a suitable alternative program for wrestling fans. While it is called TNA- Total nonstop Action, that shouldn'tmean that they have to stoop to the level of tastelessness that Vince McMahon goes to. Using the tragic death of Owen Hart as part of an angle was doing so. Whether Pipers comments were shoot or not.

uch, this is worse than a political debate, everyone wants to blame whoever's on the other side of their fed of markdom for all these horrible events, from Owen's death, way back to the death of Bruiser Brody (I swear it was HHH's conspiricy, he knew he would be big, and wanted to make sure nobody in the puertorican leagues outshone him).

From what I understand (I'll check out B&N this weekend) Piper said in his new book that he would <I>NEVER</I> use the death of Owen or any wrestler to further an angle, which makes it even worse that he would go against his own stated principles so quickly, then again, with scumbags like Russo and Jarret running a federation, I guess anything goes, huh? Especially with Jarret being Owen's "best friend" and crying on tv like we were supposed to feel bad for <B>HIM</B> But if piper didn't have the conviction to stand up against them, and just wanted to further his career by saying something shocking (remember bringing up Taz on WCW before the pointless Alkatraz bit?) then whatever, but expect to be remembered for it...

Piper's now joined a list of wrestlers, who nobody wants anymore, so they make thier money of their whining and complaining about how bad so-and-so was... The three of them should get together with Honkey Tonk Man and have a big Circle Jerk - bitchfest about how the industry screwed them....

I'll just start a new post, go read and judge for yourself.

OK I watched the tape earlier and I'll give you exact quotes like you all wanted and how the whole situation that went down with this Rowdy Roddy Piper-Vince Russo incident that took up the majority of the NWA-TNA programming. It seemed like a legit shoot from both sides. Very heated and a great tape to hold on to for future viewing.

Here we go people, sit back and get a cup of coffee for a long ass rundown. The program begins with the regular lame intro then you automatically hear the Piper Bagpipes resonate in the NWA-TNA Asylum. He comes out with his book in toe and trademark kilt and leather jacket along with, we assume his son because he looked like a 19 year old Roddy with the same outfit (No mention of his name at all during the shoot). Anyway, he starts his interview to a thunderous ovation saying NWA-TNA is the last place not tarnished by "sports-entertainment" until Vince Russo injected himself into the federation. He remarks by calling Russo, a "no talent," out of shape and could not cut it in the ring so he should "stay in the back like the other bookers." He continues by saying that "he will deliberately kill their (the young wrestlers) dreams and I won't let you do!" At this point, he promotes his book trying slyly but it was blatant like how "stars" appear on Saturday Night Live to promote a mediocre box office smash. Piper continues by saying you said last week, "I (Russo) am the Anti-Christ of sports-entertainment." He retorts by adding that he should not give himself that much credit, "You are the Bin-Laden of professional wrestling, a coward, a coward that sneaks in the night...!" Red flag... a bit strong there Rowdy.

Now here is the moment you all have been waiting for, the late Owen Hart comment. Here is the exact words that took me a while to get because of rewinding and whatnot...

Piper: "I got a question for you fans, the ones at home or here with children, two years Vince Russo wrote all kinds of things for the WWF, I have this question, hey Russo, *calmly* did you write in my cousin (really?) Owen's death?!? *crowd confused at this point* Do you write home to ask about his family *tone gets angrier and more livid* HE'S DEAD! HE WAS MY COUSIN AND IS DEAD! SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE TECHNICALITIES PUT SOMEBODY 90 FEET UP, WHY?!? *calmer* There are no consequences to pay for you. But you know what everybody pays the Piperman..."

He continues to basically call out Russo to challenge him. At one point he removes his leather jacket and shows the back of it that reads: FRATS HALL OF FAME with ten wrestlers that gave their life for wrestling: Art Barr, Rick Rude, Brian Pillman, Rick McGraw, Adrian Adonis, Andre, Owen, Kerry Von Erich, Junk Yard Dog, Bruiser Brody and then displays a black armband if no one will stop Russo and kill professional wrestling permanently.

Finally Vince Russo chewing on some gum slides into the ring and Piper corners him in one of the turnbuckles.

Piper: "You are not a pimple on my ass... I want to ask you a few questions champ, did you kill Owen Hart? *slaps him in the back of the head with his free hand*

Piper continues to ask him questions like, "How did you take over the WCW 67 million to the good and 80 million for the bad?" Then he notes that Russo called him, Flair and Hogan "dinosaurs." Then he said that Russo is not a pimple on Hogan's Ass which got a decent pop from teh sparce crowd. Piper said that he sent Russo a tape to turn WCW around but he rejected it and said that he had a great concept: "we're just entertainers and we'll make an entertainment show for them." Piper fires back by calling it "simply softcore pornography!" Russo never had a chance to have a rebuttal with the mic and gets held back by the Harris Brothers. Piper ends this segment by giving Russoa "You can kiss my ass" gesture.

After a few minutes of wrestling, another match is to begin with "Wildcat" Chris Harris but Russo makes him return and stea

BTW the first PPV i got was the one which killed owen, and it was very sad. I couldnt even enjoy the rest of my night or the rest of wrestling for the next week. NWA needs to do two things:

1. BAN all references to the WWF/E. I don't care if they mention a wrestler's career achievements in passing. They can say, "James was a multiple tag champion in the WWF". Okay.
DO NOT start referencing WWF/E back-history or old angles, even if it's to throw off on Vince. Vince is an asshole on a sinking ship that he himself has rammed into the iceberg, but that doesn't mean that the NWA is in any position to start referencing anything that has happened in the WWF/E. It's counterproductive and just makes them look like a 2nd rate, wannabe promotion. This shit reeks of Russo.

2. FIRE VINCE RUSSO. The man is POISON. He used to be known as Vic Venom? It's appropriate. His idiotic ideas will either kill the company or drive away a substantial portion of the fan-base, something that they canNOT afford.

Everyone seems to look at Russo's work in the WWE with rose-colored glasses. I was THERE for the WWF Russo era. You know what? It wasn't that good.
