HK,
I have a regular Playstation 1. I've never used it much in the years ive had it, but broke it out recently for my kids..Now when I turn the thing on, it doesnt spin the cd, thus taking straight to the cd player option screen. If i open the top the push down the button the lid hits and turn the game on, i hear a little buzzing sound and the disk struggles to moove, but doesnt. Help me please sir.

JOHNEEWADD - It's broken all right. Although it's possible to fix, you're better off getting a new machine.
Given that you already have PS1 games, your kids will get the most use out of the PS2. (So will you).

You can buy a PS1 for $49 or PS2 for $199. Get the cobwebs out of your wallet and get the PS2. You can play the PS1 games on it also. <P>

OK Johnee. It just sounds like the little motor in it that turns the CD is broken. Here's what you do.
First, unplug it. Then, open the top. Blow in the little slot near the center a few times to free any dust that may be keeping it from moving freely.
Then, soak it in the sink for a few hours. Make sure you use a good quality hand soap with some sort of Antibacterial. Leave it overnight if you can.
Then drip dry for a few hours, plug in, and ENJOY!

At this point, you're better off replacing than reparing. Blame planned obsolecense or the ever decreasing price of consumer electronics.
If the motor is burned out, you'll have to replace the motor. If it's the belt, you'll have to replace that. And you'll still be left with a 5+ year old machine and a minimum of $20 repair bill. For $50 you can get a brand new PS1.
