View Full Version : It is near impossible to find a good gift for my girlfriend

I have been to 3 malls, gotten dozens of suggestions for gifts and NOTHING seems to be "just right".

Granted, this is our first Christmas together, and I really want to do something nice for her, but my inability to find a gift is going to drive me nuts long before the holiday gets here.

It also doesn't help that three-quarters of the gifts I think she'd love, I couldn't afford anyway.

Ok, I'm going back to lurking.

--the love of my life is extraordinarily beautiful, if only she believed in herself she'd see it was true--

it doesn't get any easier the second, third or even fourth christmas. it doesn't drive me nuts anymore though...she has accepted the fact i suck at gift getting and any gift with just a bit of thought she likes <P>

get her a gift certificate at the Nail Salon or Hair Salon she uses...

get her a certificate for an hour long massage at a nearby Spa...

a nice bracelet, or locket with something nice inscribed on it...

Me and my GF started telling each other what we want for xmass a couple of years ago and it works great.

Why is it ok for kids to ask "Santa" for whatever they want but its not ok for grownups??

This way GF never gets a present that has a electrical cord and the presents I get ALWAYS DO.

Peace & Hugs,

A gift certificate to Bliss salon in the city would kick ass, I can guarantee it. If you dont want to go that crazy, jewelry--like a bracelet or chain is always good, Tiffany has some really attractive stuff. Just dont get her ANY type of ring unless you are fully and totally comitted. For some reason, a lot of women take a ring as something more than it really is.

I've been with my girlfriend for so long, I've run out of things to get her. I also am in need of some good advice.

This is now the 3rd Christmas with my girlfriend - I dont recall what I got her previous years but this years I have gotten her a Canon Elph Z3, one of those 2 tone hugs and kisses necklaces, a stuffed elephant I made at Build a Bear Workshop at roosevelt field, and a couple of little things - hope this helps - it doesnt help me that her birthday was the day before thanksgiving and I just bought her a bunch of stuff then - but my birthday is in february so I get revenge

Tattoo your girlfriend's name on your arm. A gift that lasts a lifetime.

Not as much as having a crappy star named after you.

EDIT: After giving this some thought, naming a ball of hot gas "Fuzzybutt" seems poetically appropriate.

dont bother with people's suggestions.. only you will know what she'd really like. just think about her, maybe things she's mentioned before, stuff like that. that's what i always try to do anyway, and it seems to work out pretty well. my boyfriend got me the best present ever for my birthday this year... and part of what makes it so great is that he knew it was something i'd really enjoy. dont worry so much, you'll figure it out

Was it really that bad of a gift, I was thinking of doing that one day.

How about you go away for the weekend, some bed & breakfast, and spend Christmas away from the both families.

There you can give her a basket full of goodies like wine, bubblebath, toys, etc., make love to her, give her massages, give her your gift and make it a special event.

Wait, that sounds better for Valentine's Day.

Yeah, you should stick to cash or gift certificates.

This is exactly what my boyfriend and I do. This is our 2nd Christmas together and we told each other what we wanted. We also decided to do this last year for our first Christmas and it worked out perfectly. So what, it's not really a surprise but it's something he/she wants and you'll make them very happy.

cash and gift certificates are impersonal. A good idea along the same lines is to just take her shopping. tell she can get what ever she wants (then mumble "under 50 bucks) I feel for you being poor during holidays and having a girlfriend is not fun

It depends how long you have been together. Jewelry always makes a girl happy, Gift certificates are good to a Salon she likes,Mabye she would like some OREOS!

Nice Girl, Nice Family...

Here's a suggestion:
Time alone with you is the best thing. Arrange for a weekend (or a night) away near the ocean somewhere. Bring champagne. If a weekend away is too much $$ then plan a day trip to somewhere she's been wanting to go and make all the arrangements. Bring champagne. And a small jewelry gift if you can afford it.

or go to the local Waldbaums and put quartes into the candy machine until you get her some nice jewelry. tell next year it will be real. Make roses out of construction paper. Effort counts.
