When close friends get girlfriends/boyfriends and they seem to vanish!

So I know this happens to everyone I guess and I know our purpose here on this Earth is to find someone of the opposite sex or same sex in some cases and have that co-existence until we die. Anyway one of my close friends who hasn't really dated for a while has finally found himself a girl and I am incredibly happy for him but I haven't heard from him in ages. Now I have had girlfriends in the past and have been actually warned by a couple of friends that I shouldn't ignore them and I kind of understood but still wanted to be with the girl all the time. My point is, is it commonplace for the close friends to vanish after the get hooked up or should they still stay a part of your life and even call you once in a while. I certainly feel like my buddy vanished and I know this is not the last time it will happen in my lifetime at least. You would think I would have been introduced at least. Maybe I don't matter in the friendship anymore but then again what does that say about the friendship to begin with. Anyone else deal with this shit? Pour it on.

This kind of relationship is potential disaster. I've seen it happen to tons of friends. If it doesn't work out, the jilted party will be all the more devastated, realizing that they not only have no bf/gf, but have also lost all their friends. The first time a friend did this, my inclination was to be angry, assuming her absence was a sign of her indifference to our friendship. This wasn't true. They just can't help it. The best thing you can do is be understanding if he/she tries to jump back into the friendship eventually, because they always do.
