Every once in a while, Ron will get enthused about a very esoteric subject -- Evolution, Psychology, Synaestasia, Pericles -- and go off Old School intellectual Is he a closet intellectual? Does Ron go home, slurp a glass of Madeira wine, read the International Herald Tribune while watching Charlie Rose with an ironic grin?

I think he is a Renaissance man, with many interests in many subjects and while he might be an expert in only a few of them, I think he enjoys intelligent conversation about all of them.

I bet Ron has a very high IQ. In political and social discussions, he always makes clear, logical arguments. 
I really admire Ron for his open-mindedness. He always respects others opinions, no matter how crazy they might seem (The skinhead who was on a few months back comes to mind as an example of this.) 
Yes, I would consider him an Intellectual.

Personally I find it the most enjoyable when he acts like he's BEYOND ignorant about a subject. I really can't think of an example, but sometimes he says something about a subject only the biggest moron in the world would think, and it cracks me up everytime.

I agree, I loved the other day on the replay of the science segment where he was talking about evolution. And he talks about people being born with wheels instead of legs, and the two of them just went on and on.

Ron makes most of the intellectuals I know look like babbling troglodytes, and when Fez pulls a high-falutin' zinger out of thin air, all I can do is just laugh and bow my head in awe.

These guys are way too talented for their show to be moved or cancelled. If you don't get their show by the first two listens, you probably need a coffee enema infusion to loosen up your stools and your brain.

Ron & Fez's World of Science is one of my favorite bits. I loved the time Ron explained how, if you're stuck in the desert, you can refresh yourself by sticking a straw in the camel hump and drinking the cool, refreshing water contained within.

I thought that was great radio. I like it when he starts talking about comedy & film, how it all works behind the scenes.

Ron definitely has a quick, agile mind. I can tell he enjoys reading a good book, too. He genuinely lambasts Fez for not being able to concentrate with a book - mainly because he sees the worth in it.

Fez def. went to college, they mentioned it on air when Corky was in town. It doesn't seem like Ron has, though. Ron has that Blue collar sort of intelligence, you know the old timer sitting at the end of the bar who just knows something about everything, and isn't bullshitting it.

No matter their educations, these guys are quick.

Sorta like Anthony, who despite a HS Diploma seems smarter than most college students. I'm pretty sure Ron went to college, he's a teriffic broadcaster and you don't just wing it. I know Ant didn't go, but he also only really played sounds effects on their show. Ronnie seems to do a lot more of the controls on the show himself.

I think Ron's father was a scientist or an engineer of some kind. I've heard Ron mention that his father held patents for various types of plastics.

That's because college doesn't teach you a damn thing, really :) If you're a smart person in general, you'll learn quite a bit outside of the 15-20 hours a week you're sitting in a classroom. For some people it takes school to get their brain to work, I'm sure people like Ron and Ant always had something on their mind and are just naturally smart-minded people. So they didn't take some classes, whoop de doo. I know plenty of college grads who are dumb as rocks - that's just the way their brain is.

I think both Ron and Fez have had a lot of professional experience in refining their comedy. They have to work up a lot of material for 4 + hrs. of non stop talk. I mean think how hard it is and how unusual this medium is compared to any other form of entertainment. No scripts, all improv, no dead air, the ability to juggle the boards and push the sound around, interact with listeners and crew, run and improve story lines.. I could go on but one thing is prominent that they do this for FOUR HOURS and it's fucking hilarious. You have to have a lot in your head to cover that time.... ahh what was the question again? 

I'll shoot anything that won't shoot back... c'est cheese!

Absolutely! Ron is very well read. he is also well versed in movies, music, and other aspects of pop culture. Fez can also be surprising at times with some of his obscure references. Both are also well versed on the Bible.

I know that they have to read a lot of magazines, newspapers, and watch TV & movies for the show; however, Ron doesn't seem to watch a lot of current TV. From listening, Fez seems to be the one that brings new topics up; therefore, he may be doing most of the research. I think that Ron has a phenomenal memory.
