What do you think are the best ones? Here's my top 5, in no particular order:
1. One Day At A Time-"This is it, this is it, this is life, the one you get, so go and have a ball..."
2. Hill Street Blues-A beautiful piano piece.
3. Barney Miller-Funkiest bass riff ever.
4. Are You Being Served?-Very catchy song, featuring a cash register as the main instrument.
5. Mary Tyler Moore Show-I love the beginning of "Love Is All Around", that bum-bum-bum-bum, dun-dun-dun-dun-dun...

Oh, by the way, which one's pinky?

"Oz" and "Homicide". Both without "real" vocals, but they're so perfectly evocative for the shows...creepy stuff, especially "Homicide"...

The Soprano's.......the song is real good, but together with the opening credit visuals it makes for a great theme song/video.
On a lighter note, I'm partial to The Munster's and F Troop.

My favorite theme songs are the ones with narration and then some music. My two favorites are:

Knight Rider Knight Rider - A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Michael Knight, A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law.

and Quantum Leap:

Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime...

Personally, I like how in the first season of Quantum Leap, the voiceover (that they later shortened) mentioned how Sam Beckett stepped into the accelerator because he was going to lose government funding! That rules.

Oh, and for pure camp in a more traditional theme song, I just LOVE The Ballad of Gilligan's Island. Hell - just the fact that it has a cool title like that rules!
