OK. When people are crying or upset or really down, you'll probably tell them shit like "Oh you're better than them" or "You're really a good person deep down" or "You don't deserve that."

Well what if that is EXACTLY what they deserve? What do you say? I mean, there are just some people that are ASSHOLES. It's a fact. Not EVERYONE can be a good person deep down. So what do you tell them?

I guess I'm mainly interested in how you'd tell a person that it's not everyone else, it's THEM in therapy. They're not misunderstood, they're a FUCKING IDIOT. And that deep down, they suck.

I think there is different levels of good and bad, and differences even at different times. I have known people that were pure evil who do nothing but create chaos around them. I have also known people I would consider as saints.

Assholes sometimes cry or get upset with things because they fail at fucking shit up for others and turn it around and try to get sympathy.

My son wouldn't share his Halloween candy with his brother. They were fighting and I told him, "Stop being an asshole."

He starts crying. "Mommy, why you have to call me an A-hole?" (They won't actually say curse words).

I say,"When you stop being an asshole, I'll take it back."

He shared the candy.

NJDMMOE - Yes, there are people who are assholes. What to tell the assholes is a matter of personal style.

Although every situation is different, as a general rule I look for strengths in people and focus on using their strengths to effectuate positive changes.

Telling an asshole that they are a good person is not productive. I'd go so far as to consider such "therapy" a form of enabling negative characteristics.

Sometimes, it's important to confront your clients with your appraisal of their situation. A scenerio we can all envision, is telling a client, "You say you want to take responsibility for your actions, yet you don't get the piercing you said you would get. Confrontation can help people see that you care about their goals and that you are aware they are not doing what they purport to want to.

i know a couple of people that are overly nice to everyone. they try so hard to have everyone like them, as if they're trying to make up for not being popular in high school. but then they're the first ones to say how nice they are to everyone and how they do this, that and the other thing for people. they're also always the first ones to throw it in your face.
