Whhyyyy do they call it, ... Air Lingus? Is this some sort of mile high vacation package or just an Idea to do during in flight movie if you dont have time to bang in the bathroom

Aer Lingus is Gaelic for "Air Line" since it's the national carrier. Just like Lufthansa and Aeroflot all translate at simply "Air Line".

they're a very good airline. decent rates and good service. I highly recommend them.

This turned out to be a great thread.

One clarification if I may.

Hansa basically means a crowd or community as well as their membership dues or common law.

The Hansa was a society, cooperative or corporation, originating from a joint agreement and alliance of several towns and villages, being able to form contracts and being liable as joint debtors for the offences of single members. Like an ancient Local of the Teamsters.

The Hansa, and the Hanseatic League, dominated the area now known as Germany in pre-classical times.

It is therefore more accurate to interpret Lufthansa as "Air Hansa."

I flew Air Lingus to Ireland the one time I went druning Easter vacation on a school formed trip in High School. They got me there and back alive and in relative comfort. I have no beef with them.
