View Full Version : Why almost a month vacation??

I mean, I love Ron and Fez as much as anyone on this board, but what the F??

They work 4 hours a day, why would they need a month off work? The rest of us work 8-10 hours a day and get 10 days off a year?

Just seems crazy to me......

You've got to be kidding. You think it's easy putting on a radio show? There's a lot of show prep involved. Ron and Fez make it look easy because they're super talented.

The guys deserve time off.

They especially deserve such a long vacation because of the fact that they are the only live show on WNEW and they are the only thing keeping the station from certain demise. Not to mention the fact that Ron and Fez have been put through so much over the past year. First they are shifted from every time slot every week, then they have their best friends in the radio industry and quite possibly their off air lives, taken off the air. Then they have to worry about everytime they say see ya at the end of their show if that will be their last show. Hell I say they could have as much time off as they would like, as long as they stay in NYC.

Long live Ron & Fez.

I would prefer a guest host to these ENDLESS replays, best-of's and tape delays on WNEW. Even Ron mentioned a few times on the air that's what they did in Florida and he would like to try it here.

I know Arbitron doesn't measure ratings the last 2 weeks of the year, which is why Infinity gives everyone off, but they certainly lose listeners during these vacations and maybe some of them don't come back.

As a fan of the show I'm happy to hear some more of the vintage stuff. Especially as Ron confirmed on the last show all the replays have always been recent shows. Of course I'd rather be hearing them live, but they have lives too and deserve a break.

As for losing listeners, anyone who stops listening because of reruns and doesn't come back after the break is not a true fan of the show.

For being the #1 market, New York radio sucks. Aside from R & F and O & A, there is nothing worth listening to

Sadly that was/is one of the problems with the way WNEW has this format set up, there is no one they have lined up to be a guest host. Even for Neer and Allen in the morning, I mean how great would it have been if WFAN let Sid Rosenberg do the Christmas Day (and whatever else they had replays of Neer during this time of year) morning sports show. It'd really would have been sweet.

Bottom line though, they don't believe there is enough "locally based talent" avalible to do any kind of show (what, they couldn't pull a local comic out to do the show, or maybe put Harry Elvis and Hawk in for them)

Another reason the station is a patheic mess

Has WNEW even made a decision on what format they are going to use? The most pathetic move I've ever seen is playing Letterman while he is on TV. Any chance R&F would be the flagship show of the station?

Letterman's show is a syndication package, it was widely reported about, Letterman himself has spoken about it. It's not just NEW. Sheesh.

Secondly, moving to 4 different time slots, for some time running two different shows in middays and nights(which required being at WNEW AT LEAST from 10AM to 11AM) I think that entitles them to some vacation time.

They only work four hours a day.

They put in as much time off air os they do on air, maybe more. It just sounds spontanious because R&F are that good.

In the studio, but take into the fact that there is writing involved and that would be maybe about 8 - 10 hours a day. There are many other shows that take off a lot more time in the course of a year. Stern seems to take a vacation every other week over the summer as do Don & Mike. Ron 7 Fez and O & A were on for long stretches at a time without time off. Then again I remember O & A just ouit of nowhere having that day off and the long explaination the next day which was always for good radio. Damn I miss them a lot.

before the mercurio debacle, r&f were still the hardest working guys in the station. they were there almost every night. and lets not forget fez was on with a flu. come on, lets just be thankful that they WILL be back.

O&A were good with vacations, they only took the random day off if there were divorce proceedings or if there was a good Islander game that night

First of all, R&F work for far more than 4 hours a day.

But that being said, I think it's absurd the amount of holiday time ALL radio shows get. Granted, R&F deserve it a little more than with all they put up with and worked through this year...but one month? Two weeks, sure, hell, I can even understand three weeks, but to essentially get four weeks off in a business where you're only as "hot" as your last live show? It just doesn't seem very pro-active or productive...

In case you forgot, Ron and Fez are people. Just like you and me. They're entitled to a little time off too. And after the last 6 months they've delt with, I would've given them 2 months off!!!

Counting down till January 6th!!!!

After the year they've had, I'd say this vacation was very well deserved.

As for a guest host, what would be cool is to have somebody from the show (or even the board) in studio, taking calls in between best of bits.

And that somebody should be me.

I'd be careful when taking a few days off at NEW (see Sid Rosenberg, Dumpy Lepresto)

And as we all know, celebrities are better people than the rest of us common folk. They deserve all the time off they need and want.

I can't wait for their return though. It's real quiet here...

Hey, the guys do the best comedy show I've ever heard in any medium. For all the crap they had to endure this year, they deserve the time off. I for one enjoy the replays, some for the first time. Ron and Fez are the hardest working team in radio. They are entertainers at the highest level and already prepared. So let them charge their batteries for a spectacular new year. Like Fezzie said on the 17th...you haven't seen anything yet.....

Ok I usually don't say alot but i have to chime in. Yes they put on a great show, some other plp do too. How about breaking it (the break) in two pcs. I am going crazy with repeats. Creative people need time off to gather thoughts; regular plp need time off too revive ourselves from the edge of exhaustion. Again I come back to breaking up the vacation I keep catching myself listening to other things. Guest hosting might work but then again the last time that happened, Ferral was gone in two months, remember? OK I know the station is running them ragged especially with the DC thing, just like a big company and I personally am glad their contracts allow them this time off but deep down i feel like the time is ticking off the clock and we are going to be S O L soon. Thanks for letting me vent.

How great would it be if Sid Rosenburg jumped in front of a bus on Christmas day? Hey, come on! Sid's a very funny guy. He was the only bright spot on the Sports Guys, and is doing a great job on WFAN. Ron and Fez have only great things to say about Sid.

You also have to think about the show's staff. Rory and Hawk work more hours than Ronny and Fezzy, and I Think Hawk does some or most of the overnight
