I am the designated spider-killer in my home and I have been ever since my feet were the biggest. And, as far as mice are concerned, they're my motivation for getting a snake. . .a nice, friendly little boa constrictor would be nice. Take care of ALL your mouse-problems, plus, it's fun to cuddle with, too. (ha ha ha)

My brothers, on the other hand, were always the ones who come running scared to me when there were insects, spiders or mice hanging around.

DCREED - You're overgeneralizing a statement on gender lines that isn't universally true. Many women are fascinated by bugs and rats and/or are the designated killer. Many men, think they are icky and won't get near them. It's an individual preference not based on gender.

However, women sometimes say that they are "scared" of spiders, etc, b/c they want men to feel that they are protecting them. This encourages bonding. Evolutionary psychologists claim that women developed strategies such as this in order to ensure that the guy stuck around after sex, to help raise the kid. My problem with this explanation is that it doesn't explain the men who are scared of these icky things.

but what most scares them is the "nasty sand fly with the green eyes" They even scare me a bit. They will dig their fangs in you and will not let go, even when you are under water. And they bite through your hair right into your skull...

Anyone with half a brain, or who has been bitten by one (as I have), is afraid of those buggers. They're really interesting critters, but they BITE really HARD. Ouch!
