I got a whole bunch of best buy gift certificates for Christmas and I'm planning to put them towards a new TV.
I wanted to get a nice 32" deal, but I was wondering what kind of TV's you all had and what's good/what's not, etc.
I've been impressed with a Phillips 27" number that looks bigger than it really is.
Anyone?
PS: My price range is around 500 bucks.... so alas, no Plasma screens. :)

O.K. I have done alot of research in this area. Don't worry about not getting a plasma screen. They are only good for a short time(they do not have a long life and are only meant to be on a couple of hours per day)The best out there is still the Sony Wega series. Great picture, much smaller lines and pixels than any standard tube and the flat screen eliminates glare. If you can, scrounge for the extra bucks for the 32' it runs about $750 with out the bells and whistles. T.V's last a long time and you will regret not getting agood sized one. Not all flat screens are the same. When in the store, go close to the screen and you can see the individual pixels. Sony and everything else is night and day.

I would go with Sony, too. In fact I did, and I love it.

For me with regards to electronics, its either Sony or Philips. I usually go with Sony first, never had a problem with their stuff.
I have a Toshiba television and its about 3 years old, its already starting to go on me. The color is going, and the picture is slowly sliding up...the top of the screen is now cutting off.

I can totally back up the Sony discussion. I have a 36" Sony WEGA, and it is better than any other tv I've ever owned or seen. Sony's proven itself time and again with quality - definitely pop for the extra money for a Sony if at all possible.

I hear color tv is all the rage, but i think it's a fad.

we have a Phillips Magnavox 30 and 36" tv - love 'em both - highly reccomend them - one warning though the 36" is one heavy F'er - the 30" is pretty heavy too.

If people give you advice,
will they actually get any
feedback from you?
Or will it be another famous
Matty thread that drifts off
into the land of dead
threads with no followup...
like the <(I'm buying a car)
(I'm moving to Arizona) (I'm
buying a digital camera)
(I'm going to grad school)
Any Suggetions?> threads?

Go to my ex's house. He has a 27" Wega I bought him for Christmas, if you don't mind traveling to NY to get it. Oh and don't steal the speakers I bought him also because I broke one.

Just buy a mirror and act out Chandler Bing lines.
You'll never know the difference.

It seems that everyone is in love with the WEGAs, so I'll do some research into them, perhaps Best Buy has some open-box deals or something like that... they are more expensive than I'd like to spend, and I was hoping there would be something more reasonable... but thanks for everyone's advice.
