I think it's more effective if you can hear the person, er, busting their flow. People can write lyrics, but not be able to rap at all.

Now THAT'S tricky. You can hear a lot of this with British and European MC's. The Brit MC's are a lot more fun to listen to these days, since they like switching up the beats they rap to....you get jungle, d&b, breakbeat, trip-hop, dub, garage, two-step...here in America, everyone rides the same wave of beats until the next fad comes along. It's boring.

Though it was cool to hear Method Man and Zach de la Roca laying it down on the last Roni Size/Reprazent album. Nice change of pace...

Oh, there are mountains of great American DJ's...it's just too bad that it seems most of the "hot" MC's are too scared to go along with them on really trippy tangents.
