If i have the radio turned down do they still get the ratings?

I always have the radio on tuned to WNEW with the volume all the way down when i'm not listening in the hopes that i'm helping just a bit more, but do the ratings still go through even if i have the radio muted?

I'm assuming that you are, so I'll try to give a serious answer. (My apologies if I'm stepping on The King's toes)

They don't have any way of knowing how many radios are tuned into the station (whether "muted", or otherwise) other than thru surveys. Radio uses Arbitron ratings just like Television uses Nielson Ratings. They survey a certain percentage of the listeners in an area and based on what those selected people are listening to/watching, they estimate the total number of listeners and assign a "rating".

So unless you're being asked by someone, they have no idea you are listening and digging the show... except to WRITE YOUR LETTERS TO INFINITY BROADCASTING AND LET THEM KNOW!

Sykoex - It's already been pointed out that only Arbitron families have impact on the ratings. The families are chosen in a manner very similar to that used by the Nielson (TV) people. The sample used is supposed to be representative of the people who listen to radio.

However, since the sample isn't random, it can be argued that they are not truly representative. (It's practically impossible to get a real random sample).

Mikey told me that every letter sent represents a few thousand listeners, so if you'd like to help the show write letters expressing this. The people to whom to addresss the letters and their addresses can be found in the "SAVE RON AND FEZ" forum.
