JFK considered fatherlike figure for all of america. Cause he was like a normal american. He gets shot he dies. Everyone feels bad cause they could relate so well. Everyone feels bad for family. JFK jr salutes his dad gets becomes one of most famous moments in US history. People feel bad for him kind of like americas son. than he dies and i think u see the logic now.

JFK was a handsome man who banged Marilyn Monroe. Oh yeah and he delayed World War 3.
Junior hit that chick from Splash which is OK but I'm assuming it's more of a liking him for his dad kind of thing.

No I don't see. He wasn't like an average American. He was part of the elite. His father got rich by running bootlegged alcohol. How can anyone relate with that?

Because some people believe the Kennedys were/are the closest thing to a royal family this nation has.

When the leader of your nation's head gets blown off in glorious Technicolor, it tends to have an impact on people.

He was young, he was pretty, he got shot. Shake the three together, and you have a recipe for obsession.

I was in kindergarten the day JFK was shot.My mom told me why I couldn't attend. My dad came home and cried.A couple of days later we went to my grandparents house and the funeral service was on TV.My dad filmed it on his movie camera.I'll never forget Jackie talking into JFK jr's ear. Then he did his salute to his dad.So glad we put that on video. <P>

Well...as far as JFK goes...he had charisma. He was one of the first presidents to debate on television. He was handsome and intelligent and well spoken. He was surrounded by family and many MANY Americans Idolized him. He was also trying to keep the country out of Vietnam. His father may have been a bootlegger but JFK...even though he was a womanizer..had class.
JFK Jr. had alot to live up to...expectation wise. And I will admit...he had his problems with the media, but he did carry himself with class and with poise. His untimely end (which I knew about 8 hours before the rest of the country...long story) just made the story of what kind of man he would have ended up like even sadder. Even in the spotlight he was a gentleman.
Both mens' lives and stories ended incompletely. We could only try to imagine what they would be like now. What made it so big was that they were all over magazines...TV...and the newspapers...their lives happened during the Nuclear and computer Ages. Had this been 1900 instaed of 2003. We would have barely known about them as much as we do now.

Hats off to all who try to explain,I'll add mine.
His was the first televised Presidency. The youngest elected he represented the hopes of America in the "Cold War". Stood up the "Red Menace" ,got the Russians to pull their missles out of Cuba ,promised "the Moon" to catch up in the space race. His wife, epitomised class and opened up the White House to a T.V. tour which she lead. This was before cable, video games or the net, if the tube was on you saw it.
The whole Hollywood connection was viewed as part of the charisma. This was when the White House press corps was protective of any peccadillos in the highest office.
