(I hope I put this in the correct forum)

From today's Washington Post:

As it turns out, WJFK (106.7) gained some and lost some with Don & Mike replacing Opie & Anthony. In the midday slot -- where a syndicated show with Bill O'Reilly, the popular Fox News TV yakker, replaced Don & Mike -- the station fell from the top position to a tie for 10th. And with "The Sports Junkies" moving from the evening shift on WJFK to morning drive on WHFS-FM (99.1), WJFK fell from fourth to ninth place with the Junkies' replacement, the comedy duo Ron & Fez.

Seeing that the Junks, who were kicking ass, were at 4 and R & F only dropped to 9th is not bad at all. Especially for a new show, which is what they basically are in DC.

D & M provides a great lead in and R & F have no place to go but up. JFK now need to get rid of the Monday sports show.

I don't see the great facination with D & M, but it's a much better lead-in than Tom Lick-Ass!

I was surprised to learn from Sarah my wife that the latest audience ratings for WNEW which she downloaded today on her Arbitron thingymajig indicate that more people listen to R+F in the 10-2 slot than they do in the evenings 7-11.30.

Bizarre!

Nine isn't great, but it's actually better than what O&A got when they first went live...weren't they at like 16? The boys have nowhere to go but up...

I must admit that as much as I love hearing the boys live, I've gotten in the habit of listening to the replay every day from 10 - 2 while at work. I couldn't imagine trying to get through a workday without them now.

I hope that the never do, but IF they did ever stop running the replay the next day, I'd bet the 7 - 11:35 numbers would go up because people like me would have no choice but to catch them at night.

I say add the two together and let THAT be their rating!

Ninth is not to bad. It took the junkies a while to get those ratings. Ron and Fez have only been on a few months live and they have 0 advertising for the show. So it will be by word of mouth to get the word out about our boys.

Thank you Ron and Fez for finally being live in DC again.
Philly is the next market for the boys. Wake up WYSP...

If only more people knew about Ron and Fez... I mean, how can you not like them??

I used to turn them off after O&A, but after a while I realized they even better!!

It's too bad O&A got canned because they were a great lead in to R&F, they introduced a lot of new fans.

I just hope they don't leave NYC. With R&F on the air at nights I haven't watched TV in years....

When talking with DC Pete in school today, we agreed that you have to get used to RnF.

You may hear something you think is really stupid for a few nights, then you hear a funny joke and you just love the show, and continue to listen.

Its how i got into it, a friend told me about em, i remebered them from the .com days when i listened a little bit and gave em a try.

Then they had the beer olympics, and after a few shows that i thought were a bit slow, i laughed my ass off and ever since ive been loyal to the boys.

Just like this guy i worked with over the holidays, he made fun of RnF, then they made fun of steve spurrier, and every night i was in there, he wanted to listen to RnF with me, and learn about the show.

Today's WashingtonPost.com had
a discussion with the radio
critic...towards the end
there's the following bit:

"Winchester, Va.: Yes, yes I
know you hate O&A, but some of
us do find them a little more
amusing that the ancient Don
& Mike. So what's the deal?
Where are they? Is it going to
be much longer? I can't stand
the radio any more, even
though I am starting to
(slowly) love Ron and Fez.
Thanks!

Paul Farhi: I don't think
we'll be hearing from O&A
anytime soon, and certainly
not within the next millenium
in Washington. They're simply
too hot to handle now, and
weren't popular enough to
begin with. As for Ron & Fez,
I'm with you there -- they're
starting to grow on me."

Not much, but every little bit
helps. They'll have
Junkies-link numbers by the
summer.

They're still fairly new. It's rare that a show like this will go to a new market and explode. It took a while for them to build momentum in NY and now look at the following they have. They'll build the audience because they know how to do it.

#9 is awesome for the first month in the new timeslot. I remember when Don and Mike first came to WJFK (from another DC station), they dropped to #14. I went to a live show and they passed out buttons that said "Don and Mike #14". A year later they were #1.

For those that say O&A were a better lead-in than D&M, I disagree. I used to turn off O&A on a regular basis because it was gross and demeaning. D&M are much closer to straight comedy, like R&F (please excuse my use of the term "straight"). Although I do still turn them off if they play fart noises over Buzz's newscast, then turn it back on at 7 when R&F start.

I don't dance to music; music dances to me.

Well when a new show comes to town, it takes a while to establish itself. Think how bad it would be if WJFK had not been running Ron and Fez from 11-3am for the past year and a half.

I do need to point out that I hear Don and Mike taking little "friendly" jabs at Ronnie and Fezzie. The other day Mike read billy's intro, and they use fezzies real name. They claim its friendly, but I remember that when O&A came to town, D&M had nothing but good things to say about them, then it turned bad. I'd really hate to see a repeat.

And one more note! Today marks the first time I called the Show and spoke to the Boys on air live! Woo Hoo! I am no longer a virgin. I called around 11:20pm and told them that the ABC laws were more re-laxed in DC, and that there were strip clubs that had full nudity and alcohol. Nice! I really wasn't that nervous. I am not one to call all the time, but once in a while If I can contribute, I will.

From the sound of the callers, it sounds like R&F are building a growing and loyal fan base. We're beginning to see (well, "hear") some regular callers and visitors.

Hopefully there will be significant improvement when the next ratings come out!

Don and Mike are taking Jabs at Ron and Fez, I don't think they're in the friendly manner they play off.. It seems don was a bit mad that Ron and Fez say buddy. because Don and Mike use to say buddy all the time a few years ago. So i guess Howard invented it. i mean don invented the use of the word buddy.. They only kissed Ron and Fez ass , when they thought it would help them in NY. but once again don and mike show, that they're really dicks.. I hope R&F just ignore those assholes, and don't fight back.. it only makes D&M look like assholes.. first I was a huge D&M fan then a big R&F fan, but now R&F are my favorite show. so maybe they're threaten by a great show like R&F. so in closing .. blow me D&M!!!

He was saying they did it first, and they did. Again, they didn't tell R&F to stop doing it, so who cares? Do you really expect Don to reign in that monster of an ego at this point of his career? It's only a fight if either show chooses to make it a fight. The only reason O&A and D&M clashed was because Opie and Don are really just two sides of the same coin. There's no out-of-control ego on R&F, or at least not one that gets on the air, so I don't really see there ever being a problem between the two shows, because R&F are bigger than that...

He stated a simple fact. Where was he starting a fight? I on the other hand could give two shits to what you write about don and mike since you are and always have been biased. DC Reed was in the fucking studio (it seems pretty obvious you weren't) and Fez was pissed. Don and Opie are strong personalities, true. The difference is that Opie could at least attempt to back it up. They are two sides of the same coin? Which, the one with a funny (Road Rage Tales) and unfunny side (Bart stories)? As for your "bigger than that" ideal, bullshit! That's something pussies say who never take a stand or have no character. "A man without enemies is a man without character." I've met the boys and they both have some mean streaks. If the end at Infinity came around I'm sure they would have it out with the likes of the "I did it first baby shit duo". Also, I guess you aren't "bigger than that" since you called a poster a Retard and posted a Don and Mike esque unfunny picture as you normally do. Grow a set or shut the fuck up. And in case the WNEW mess didn't open anyone's eyes, ON-AIR IN-FIGHTING AT A RADIO STATION IS BAD FOR BUSINESS. I don't give a shit about D&M. I'm not "biased" because I'm not a fan of theirs. But it would be stupid and pointless for R&F to take out any shit they may have with them on the air. Arguing with other shows on the same station, ANY station, just splits the fanbase. If R&F have issues with the moronic things Don is saying, I have no doubt they'll do the SMART thing and take him to task about it off the air. What's your problem here...do you NEED to hear them try and ream Don on-air?

As for the rest, it's pretty much the standard, "insert internet argument #1a HERE", so it's really not important at all.

I posted the pic because it sure as shit sounded to me like he was taking a shot at ALL of the DC listeners just because R&F are here now and not in NYC. That ain't cool, and it kinda cheesed me off.

And as for the Don and Opie thing, I just find it easy to compare the two because to me they both just sounded like two very abrasive, self-important "shock jocks." I don't like either one, so it's hardly a case of me picking one over the other. Ten years ago, when I listened to D&M, it was because I liked Mike. When I listened to O&A, it was because I thought Norton and Anthony were the funniest guys on the show. Don & Opie just don't do it for me as radio personalities, and they just seemed very similar to me.

the R&F digs were uncalled for. and i lost respect in don for that, but it sounds like he is very insecure and knows RF are fucking lethal.
they KNOW wjfk has finaly got some funny ass talent on the roster, and i think it's got them just a bit nervous. but i could be way wrong.

ROn and Fez never get into shit like this. they let the people like who they wanna like.
they dont have rules for callers, they dont treat their fans like pissants (even tho we are)
and they dont diss other shows..
I am going on record and saying fuck the d&m show. and all their jealous insecurites..
i dont get how don can diss fez when his name is mike sorce? how the FUCK do u get don out of that? and geronimo? thats original.
i dont care what anyone says, Fez will always be Fezzy in out hearts. ..
dons mouth has made me dislike that show..
not that anyone cares, their still # 1. but who gives a shit.. Justin timberlake is #1 also.
do u think anyone respects him as an artist?
I'll take a 9th place funny show, over a # 1 bore fest. and lets face it, when u talk about yourself for 4 hours, AND diss the following show, you ARE putting us off and asleep..
grow up don, the 2 shows could of had some fun together..

* hope its all in fun, i thought d&m had more class than to fuck with rf.

Don did the same thing with the Junkies. He'd be all buddy-buddy with them, but every so often he'd have to take a shot at them. And I think he and one of the Junkies never got along, and made it known that they didn't like each other. Like Perry said, the guy's more paranoid than Nixon...

But still, it would be even worse if R&F starting taking shots back. The downfall of WNEW really started with the feud between O&A and D&M, because it showed the station heads had no balls or power, and the shows could get away with whatever they wanted. R&F have the better show, and they should just keep on doing what they do.

Mojo, I never knew if you were a ture D/M fan or not. I simply have read many of your posts which seem to defend them in many situations. I love Perrynoid's J. Timberlake's analogy.....it's funny cause it's true! As for the downfall of the station being due to in-studio fighting, I totally disagree. Stern had made this a staple in his career, and the fighting made me listen to a show I hated, D/M, to see what was said next or how big a stone was thrown. Use the board as an example. Mods and others may say that fighting gets out of hand, and it's true. Yet a little tiff here and there is good for the soul. For example,

Spoon why be an angry bitter person, stop your critiquing of everybody remove your lips from Opies dick and calm down. Your Opinion-worthless, your point of view-no one cares, your own lack balls-very evident
Funny that he calls me an angry person (sometimes true, but usually at my hockey games and in traffic), look what dribble he wrote. I would indeed take Opie's humor and aggressive quality over that of Don's boring life stories and grumpy old man crying. The difference of the shows is that Opie realized that Anthony was the comedic fuel of the show, while Don thinks, but isn't even as funny as that of Mike or the other guy (Rob Spiwak??, who may actually BE funny). The KOne is makes many points with no follow up, yet it did amuse me and bring me back to the thread. As the tiffs bt D/M and O/A when I thought O/A started to slip. These are opinions people, I just don't acknowledge that of KO's.

i think its cool R&F dont mention or say anything back. In fact, i've never heard them say anything bad about any other dj.
that may get to don more than "digs"..

Spoon, you're right...I tuned in to D&M for the first time in over two years when they got into the fight with O&A...but at the same time, let's be kinda honest about radio fans: a LOT of them will be almost fanatical about following their favorite DJ's, and if that DJ bashes someone or something, they usually fall right into line. I'm not saying that the DJ's all need to like each other, but you think they'd try to not use that kinda divisive stuff on-air when you're sharing the same station...ultimately the goal should just be the station's survival in the ratings.

As for me defending D&M, it's just that for better or for worse, they provide the ratings the WJFK needs to be a pretty decent all-talk station, so while I don't listen, I'm glad they're around to give R&F a stable home in DC until they can get back on in NYC.
