Just wondering,
Are there any health nuts on this board? Any people visit the gym on a regular basis (3-5 times a week)?

I suck. Last year as my New Years resolution I joined a gym for a month and went regularly. So I signed up for 6 more months but didn't go the last 4 of it. So I wasted all that money and now I am about as in shape as the little black kid in the wheelchair on Malcolm in the Middle.
I would love to find a gym near me that I can pay per month and not get wallet-raped.

I go to a personal trainer
twice a week and to dance
class (ballet or jazz) the
other days. Its a pain in the
ass and expensive but it's
worth it.

I got to the gym at least twice a week, but I play hockey another three times of the week (Two days of roller league, one day of a weekend ice league). I do kung fu whenever I am at home though to help myself out

I belonged to one years ago. I usually work out at home with free weights or I run. I haven't done this since Christmas. UGH! It's hard to get started again.
A gym is going to open on the first floor of my office guilding. I REALLY would have NO excuse not to go. I'm considering joining, but only if they offer my company's employees a good deal.

I've been going 3-5 times a week for about 2 and a half years now. Most weeks only 3 - especially in the winter. Unfortunately, to get to my gym I have to take the subway downtown about 7 stops, and walk a bit to boot, which doesn't help motivate me. I do mostly freeweights.

I used to do kung-fu 3 days a week and work out a half hour a day at home every morning. When I got my current job, It killed that routine.
Now, I go to kung-fu 2 days a week and am starting to do sit-ups daily again. We'll see how it goes.

I'm so out of shape that I went bowling last weekends, and my leg muscles ached from it the next day. Smoking a lot doesnt help either.
We have a gym two floors below me in our company for $10/month and I STILL haven't joined. All I need to do is tone up and maybe lose 10lbs and I'd be happy.

rip off - they know you'll give up after a couple of weeks but rope you in with a committment. Gave up the gym and use my treadmill 3-4 mornings a week for 20 min. Better than the old use for the treadmill (clothes rack). Any exercise that doesnt hurt you has to be better than none, right?

I had to get some stitches out on new years eve, and my doctor, whom I haven't seen in years, gave me a weight lecture. Since I have two gyms near me I can use for free, I've started going again last week. Hopefully I can keep it up this time and maybe make a dent in my disgusting dwarven body...

I work out all the time. I run a lot and lift, and kickboxing here and there. It's what keeps me sane. I think the real benefit to working out is mental, at least in my case, it's a great stress reliever.

I saw a great bumper sticker the other day - "I'm in no shape to exercise."
I've got a pretty decent set up in my basement, but I have an on-again off-again relationship with working out. Sometimes I'm totally into it, and then I'll go months and months just being a lazy slob.
I'm trying like hell to get motivated again.

I've been going regularly for the past month and have begun to see good results already. I used to go in college with a buddy all the time and turned into a mini genetic freak. Now I'm going solo but really began improving again by tracking each set I'm lifting in my secret notebook. I want big muscles.
Any RF.net buddies go to NYSC?

I used to go to the gym five days a week and then run on the weekends. But, I had to stop in November after I herniated a disc in my back. Now, two months and some excellent physical therapy later, I'm getting back up to speed and working up to five days a week again.

I went faithfully 3x a week for a few months from Sept 2002 to Nov 2002. I stopped with the holidays and it got so cold. I'm on a super diet now that recommends not exercising for the first 2 months to let your body get used to the diet. People are more likely to binge-eat after a work out and I would be defeating my purpose. So I'm going to give it a few months and go back faithfully in March. I go to Bally's and they have everything there. I do the treadmill, elllyptical machine and when I go back I'm going to try swimming.

Over the years i've joined 3 or 4 gyms, it never lasted more than a month or 2. I've also had a bench and free weights at home for the past 15 years. It was always either join a gym for the motivation or work out at home for the convenience. I finally decided to save my money and try to stick with working out at home. On a side note, back on the 16th of Sept '02 I started a protien and fat diet. little carbs. and as of today I'm down 49lbs. sorry, I couldn't help myself, It's a great feeling of accomplishment.
