There is some truth to that picture. Black slaves did eat a lot of watermelon, along with pigs feet, ham hocks and other foods that were plentiful and unwanted by the Plantation owners. That's how that stereotype started.

It's not so much that stereotypes are TRUE, just that there IS some truth behind the formation of all stereotypes. For example: All people whose board names start with a 'C' and end in a 'K' have huge cocks.

Some stereotypes are based in various ways on some form of truth, but often, as with the already talked about "watermelon" stereotype, it's something that's long out of date and no longer accurate...what, only blacks like watermelon these days?

Other stereotypes are based on pure ignorance, distrust and fear.
