I just got a notice, dated for February 5, 2003... I simply called in and set up for another day six months from now.
I hear you can do this up to two times.
I rather go in the summer than the winter.

I have to call tomorrow to see if I have to serve on Jury Duty, I really REALLY dont want to have to go down there and I cant see why they dont make retired people and unemployed people do this shit. They may even make me have to go out to fucking Riverhead!
Whats the fastest way out of it? What happens if your # comes up and you dont show?

that porn star in california had as part of her platform, that if you are unemployed, you had to serve on jury duty.

Id support that. Its not like if your unemployed that youd miss much by having to stay there for a few days. It would be a good incentive NOT to lose your job!

I did jury duty about a year ago. It sucked. We new the guy was guilty after the first day but we had to wait for it to be over. It took a week and a half. Torture! And the other jurors were all morons, except for this one really hot girl that was there. That part wasnt so bad.
Hope you guys get out of it.

I had to go in for jury duty last year. It sucked because you just have to sit and wait to be called. My group lucked out...we almost had to hear a case, but they ended up throwing the case out...3 hours of my life wasted, but at least I didn't have to go into work.
A few years ago I had to serve grand jury for a week. That wasn't so bad...we heard several cases, mostly rape and drug related. We also did one high profile murder case in Westchester. That one was really interesting...it was a lotto winner who murdered his cousin's wife, unborn baby and her father in law...the kids saw it and everything. And we indicted the bastard.
<IMG SRC="http://www.chaoticconcepts.com/bans/jensig2.gif">
I was lucky enough to get out of jury duty each time I was called. The first time I had a work-related trip that couldn't be rescheduled. The second time I got out of a murder trial by saying that I still bore emotional scars after having been mugged. The third time was a trial for someone who defrauded the government so I said I was a conservative Republican who believe she belonged behind bars for stealing my tax dollars.

He says Applegate "was not overjoyed to be called back."
Shearer got off by saying he was under contract to do his voices for "The Simpsons." Applegate's manager says she'll probably use the same type of argument to be excused.
So wait, I don't understand how being under contract to do voices can get you off. Is his job so important they can't have him do voices at night or something?
And what exactly is Christina so busy with these days?

Heck, I don't know, I think I'd like to be a juror. Especially in a case where a man was accused of raping his cat 'cause if you ask me, that cat wanted it!

only two years? I know it's more than that in NY. And if you are a full time student, you can be excused from even going in at all.

I haven't lived in NYC since 2000 and I'm still getting jury summonses. Every time I call, they admit they fucked up, give me a code to write on the form & mail back, and a few months later I get a letter again. I just got my fourth one since I moved. I wonder what would happen if I didn't reply to it, because I'm really sick of the bullshit.

I realize that juty duty is a huge pain in the ass, but unfortunately you have an obligation to serve. This really sickens me when people try to get out of jury duty. I really feel that by living in this country, and by benefitting from all the freedoms the country has set up for you, you have an obligation to serve on a jury.
But if you really want to get out of it, the best way is to make yourself as unattractive as possible. Answer questions with very extreme answers, stick close to one particular ideology, and the chances of you getting picked are almost non-existant.

Hey , its not that I dont want to be a part of it, its that there are millions of unemployed and retired people who sit on their fat asses all day and loaf, and Im the one who has to reschedule my work hours and put up with the bullshit. I really dont think Im a "peer" of someone who is on trial. If they do force me to go through it, Im going to admit that I think that everyone is guilty of some kind of crime, myself included. I speed, Ive stolen stuff, I smoked pot a few times, Ive blown stop signs and Ive littered. I go through great lengths to avoid being tracked and generally do whatever is within my capability to avoid contact with the government.

i got called for jury duty for the same week in two different states. If you have to go, I highly recomend going the week of a holiday (like the 4th of July.) They never start new trials then. When I served, they only picked people for one trial in two days- that's basically nothing. And they let the rest of us go after two days, even though we were supposed to be there as part of the pool for three.

Now Im wondering what will happen, the letter I got said I have to call last Friday, which I did, and the recording read off a list of #s of people who had to report, mine wasnt in it, but the group mine was in was told to call back Monday, which I did and again my number wasnt in it and told to call Tuesday. I called Tuesday and the recording said to call Wednesday, which I did and again it said to call tommorow. But tonite the recording said that because of incliment weather, if you feel travel is too dangers to not go, but my # wasnt called, and Im wondering when I call tomorrow if my # comes up, that will be for me to report Friday. If tomorrow and Thursday they dont call me, could they make me call next week? Does this bullshit of calling last beyond a week? If they do call my # and I just ignore it and dont show, what can they really do? Im sure you can tell I really dont want to have to do this!!!

......if you were on the Jayson Williams jury, you could be rich.
......if you were a female (semi-hot) and on the Jayson Williams jury, you would have PLAYBOY knocking on your door.
.....and if you were dead, you wouldn't be making that $5.00 per day for doing jack.

The calling is just one week. Let's say 100 people get jury duty notices this week, and only 60 get called in and 20 get put on juries. All 100 get credited for jury duty.

Ok, today I call, and my # comes up, for me to report to FUKIN RIVERHEAD!! But, the recording says "Due to expected snowy precipitation forcast for tonite, if the weather is bad and you feel its dangerous to travel, dont go", and of COURSE Im going to feel like its dangerous and not go! So that leaves Friday, if I dont go Tomorrow (Thursday)..... would you just not bother calling Thursday evening to see about Friday? Im not holding anyone to it by the way, just sayin', if it was you.... ?
Oh and thank you all for the overwhelming supportive responses on this topic here. Its nice to know that when I finally need some comforting advice, you all come through for me. Thanks!
