Friday is when movies come out. Sunday is a day when stores have limited hours. Mondays just plain suck, and I can't explain Wednesday and Thursday.

well, stores usually get their shipments sometime on monday and after the store closes, they stock the new merchendise. Thus then causing you to wait till a Tuesday for new Videos and CDs.

I hadn't noticed this before, so when I returned a movie to Blockbuster today, I took a look at the upcoming (and past month) release schedule.

The Bourne Identity came out today (Tuesday). Many other movies (many of which I never heard of) had Tuesday release dates. But one had a Friday release, and one came out on Monday. From the very limited sample at my local Blockbuster, movies come out at least 3 days a week.

Perhaps the Tuesday only release is local (or perhaps the blockbuster I visited was atypical).

I suppose that the store would put them out as soon as possible after they recieve them so the question is really when are the movies shipped.

Video games come out every day of the week. Especially products with the release date of "when it's ready."

as for movies that come out on fridays and such. It depends on when the distrubutor ships the product. Its always shipped Next Day. But some places like Blockbuster get films earlier then other places due to rentals. But if the Movie is to come out on a monday means it was shipped saturday and recieved sunday and put on the shelf sunday after closing. So hopefully i helped answer another question.

It's just a common practice to
release dvds, cds, and books on
Tuesdays. Marketing 101
dictates that if you limit the
availability of a product in
anyway, demand will increase.
So, the companies announce a
release date and do not allow
stores to sell the product until that
date, even if they get them in
stock earlier.

The phenomenon of record
stores stocking their shelves on
monday night is because of the
coordinated release dates, not
the other way around.

This is by no means set in stone:
last year Disney released the
Shrek DVD convieniently on the
the same Friday that Pixar
released Monsters Inc. And, of
course, every big film takes every
excuse to release before a friday.

So, I don't know why Tuesday as
opposed to Wednesday or
Thursday...since books are
released then, I have a feeling it's
a pretty old and could be a
calculated marketing strategy
(like a focus group picked the
day) or a fluke (like one publisher
's delivery man only work on
tuesday).
