Does political debate even matter anymore?

I mean what's the point. Most people, at least those of a certain age, have some sort of political leanings.

Is there anything short of video of Dubya performing an abortion that will make his supporters not support him? Probably not.
And we all know that there is absolutely nothing that will stop a Democrat from supporting their guy. :)

So what's the point? Who are we trying to persuade. Or are we even trying to persuade at all?
