With the new promos running for returning wrestlers or wrestlers who are going to be put into the spotlight soon, do you think it is wise for them to make a character for them already? Look at John Cena. No one new who he was (except for OVW fans like me) and now he has developed himself into a character that gets to show off his mic talent (neverminding the fact that he plays a white rapper) and in ring ability. I think that newcomers should be made to develop their own characters without being labeled as something before they even arrive. Now I dare ask this question:

What do you guys think?

Promos only seem to work for when big stars come over (read: Y2J, Steiner, Tazz, etc), those promos were good, because we knew what we were getting. for everyone else, I think we should just let the characters develop naturally.

What about Edge? he had amazing promos, some cool early intros (hiding in the crowd, coming out of nowhere to downward spiral, etc.), then they dropped the ball and didn't know what to do and threw him with the vampires...

I rather like the promos. It gives the new talent something to work with, instead of just being thrown to the wolves, and if done right, it can instantly get them over.

Take Randy Orton for instance. They put him out there on Smackdown, and I didn't care about him. Most fans didn't seem to care for him. Now, after those endearingly obnoxious Randy reports he would give, I find that I'm actually looking forward to his return.

Orton is extrememly funny, hes solid on the mic and i look for to his return as the pretty boy of this new faction but i really do hope his ring skills have improved a lil at least.

For returning wrestlers, promos are good to amp up the audience for their return. For new guys, its kinda dumb. I forgot who said it best but the WWE has to realize that the fans can't be spoonfed good guys and bad guys anymore. Pretty much, depending on how we feel about somebody, that's where the character goes. So to peg some ex-con as a real dangerous dude, is like saying,
