the last tuesday of every month at 1515 broadway in manhatten is the board meeting for viacom from 8am until 1pm. if you wanna be heard then the time is now. lets picket the headquarters. in a cival and peaceful way. and i must add this really does suck bad. but i will say this if oand a would have not been so selfish in august and stopped pushin the envelope we would not be havin this conversation. i know this first hand and i must say i was a big o and a fan however they have alot to do with the killing of the talk format at new.

Anyway, I don't know what to say... I can't stop frowning, I can't smile, I can't laugh.

All day yesterday I watched the SuperBowl, cause I knew the guys would have a great story to tell... and when the BUCS won, I was so happy and couldn't wait to hear FEZ go crazy on the radio.
Now this.
What a bittersweet moment for him.

I'm gonna miss them.
I'm gonna pray for their health and happiness.
It's gonna take a while for them to get used to not having us bother them online, calling them up, and show up at the events and the studio.

So long as we can still hear them through streaming audio, I guess it will be okay.

But in the meantime, I'm very sad.

I represent the silent majority. I am one of those freeloading fans who have listened to the boys forever (since the Dot Com days) and never gave anything back. I've never called the show and Ive only lurked around on this board and never contributed anything. I realize now that you don't know how much somehting means to you until you don't have it anymore. I tuned in today to hear Nelly and my jaw dropped....no words can express the combination of anger, sadness and profound loss I feel today. It seems kinda silly that I am feeling these things about a couple of voices inside my radio whom I've never met or even seen and yet, I feel I've lost something. Every night...or evening...or afternoon...or all three... over the past severl years, I could count on turning the dial and hearing the boys and smiling, or sitting there talking at my radio. Thats gone now...I don't know what to say...To the boys, you will be missed. There are thousands of people like me whom u never heard from but who think u are two of the most wonderful, funny, and talented people in the Biz. When 10:00 rolled around and I heard J'lo and MissyElliot I knew something was Not Good . I worried allday thinking about 7:00 and when it rolled around and I heard more inane rap drivel I realized it was DEFINATELY NOT GOOD. When I got on here (finally) and read the message from the guys I cried.

But my God, the signs were there and none of us saw them.

I think Ron & Fez knew this was coming. I don't think they knew it was happening this quickly....but I believe they knew this was going to happen.

Because of something Ron said last week. Last Thursday, I believe it was, the crew was debating about whether or not to get the Bucs tattoos....Rory & Wonderboy were talking about getting the tat....and Ron made a comment like, "Hmm, who do we take with us to D.C., Rory or Wonderboy?" I didn't think anything about that comment at the time, because I just thought they were planning a trip down to D.C.

Now, though....It makes me wonder.

They really made us feel like part of the show, one of their friends, and part of a family. Anyone who says its only a show didn't get it. I'll be listening on S.U, though it won't be the same. This truly shows big business is the one who always wins in the end. The voice of the people is mute for now. Regardless and pointlessly call Viacom and let them now how you feel even its just so the person answering the phones can record the volume of calls.

On a serious note though, I am overwhelmed with sadness. I felt it from the minute I tuned in this morning & heard the crap my speakers were spewing, but I held out hope. Since there was no real pattern to the songs (a little more light hip-hop than anything else, but still a nonsense mix overall), I hoped thay had just given up on reruns & there might be salvation at 7pm.

When that hope was dashed, it hit me like the barrel of a baseball bat to the chest. New York radio has officially become unlistenable. I used to put up with other stations, just biding my time between O&A and getting to Ron & Fez. Now both have been taken from me & I'm fucking pissed.

I know a station can't be expected to keep a format for the sake of one show. But in a city filled with station after station of the same horseshit, how can a company that has something truly different & genuine...with a fanbase that it young, rabid, and loyal...not find a spot for it?

Well, I raise a tall water glass filled with the finest Cabo Wabo Anejo to Ron & Fez. Lasting success in DC, hopefully so much so that there is no choice but to find room for you back here in market #1. Buddays...you will be missed more than you'll ever know.

It literally felt like a death in the family today.

I'm amazed at all the first time posters and those who registered just today so they could post and vent their grief.

Anyway, to the producers, interns, Earl, the callers, the show regulars, the mods and admins here, etc... It may not be the end but it is an approriate time to say that you have all made a difference in many people's lives and mine is one of them.

2) The Top 40 music is Album cuts, not the single "radio edits". Considering that the Eminem "Lose Yourself" had the F-bomb in it, they don't have the correct records to carry this format. If Top 40 was the planned format, they would have spent the money to get the radio edits.
Stupid comment from our "radio insider" tenbats. I do believe the station is an Infinity/Viacom entity, right. Hence they have an endless supply of materials to set up any type station they choose, let alone they NEVER pay for the radio edits. Stupid is as stupid does brother. Thanks to Jratt and The Nature Boy for backing my disregard for the keyboarding .... trying to be civil so I won't.

But if your station pulls a .7 and its ranked 29 out of 40 stations in the largest market in the country I'd do something drastic.

You mean like have some shows that are live during your five month decision making process. They didn't make the slightest effort to make or save money, losing probably millions easily saved with minimal effort. Hell, even shit music would generate more ad rev then repeats of a show that failed miserably here before.

Someone posted earlier that they had it in the works to "blow up" the station even before the O & A show brought heterosexual sex back to the Catholic church. They were probably being influenced by the Stern rants and wimpering with Mel to back their wallet stuffer. In fact Stern brought it up this morning (Tuesday) saying that all the big PDs are vying for the NEW gig, and he pushed his puppets. He also cried again about "the whole station of Howard Sterns", again proving he never ever respects talent. You don't hear Carson crying about Letterman and Conan all day long. I have a friend inside, low position as it is, that heard Stern had pushed the envelope to all his key people and never let it go behind closed doors and meetings. The format hurt his ratings in the market that drives his ad rates and syndication fees across the nation. This being weighed, the station had no loyalty to the newbies and cut all of them loose in the NY market. I called a few of the posted numbers and got the best response when I stated I will no longer listen to any of their stations, especially Stern. I listened for the last time today.

Carson had a slow start but was given time and became an icon. Ron and Fez have that kind of talent and I thank you and all of your crew/s over the years. I enjoyed calling, the hockey show which I was in-studio, and all the events in which I missed only one over the whole time.

Hope this is what you meant. The fact is, management won't care as much about receiving letters from a fan base that will be replaced with those that like the new format. If the sponsors start receiving letters of potential boycott, they will either threaten to pull their $ ( which is what mgt. really cares about), or state that the Ron and Fez fan base, in their opinion, are more valuable to them there is some chance mgt. will listen. Its all about the almighty buck. If you can convince the coperate sponsorss that the new format will hurt their sales, they are going to bitch. If the station is loosing money, someone will bitch. List the companies that advertised pre and post dismissal,, and contact them (politely), and tell them that you will no longer be purchasing their products due to the current situation.

In today's Daily News there was a line in the WNEW article that mentions that Steve Kingston was over-seeing the new format at NEW.

This confirms something I've felt for a while, they purposely tanked this station. In the 8 months since D&M left they were never replaced. The same thing for the 5 months since O&A were gone. And the only show that could pull some ratings was not put in morning or afternoon drive. It was also diluted by being played twice a day. They wanted this station to fail.

Well I guess Kingston got the last laugh. And Opie was so cocky everytime he pissed that guy off.

Don (of The Don and Mike Show) is talking about the R&F situation, and saying that infinity is considering letting the boys continue to broadcast from NYC, even though the show will only air in D.C. for now... but something about Infinity saying that "they had to find a studio for them to broadcast from"... which Don is saying is bullshit because there is no reason they couldn't use one at WNEW, or 1010 WINS, or KROCK, etc.

Now he's talking to Allen Linewan (sic), acting general manager of WJFK, and trying to get a firm date of when R&F will start broadcasting live again, and I believe he said, "if not today, then tomorrow", and that they'll be coming down to DC next week... but it still sounds like their "home base" could possibly remain in NYC.

I would just like to thank everyone involved with the show for 2 years of great entertainment. The Ron and Fez Show will no longer be on WNEW. We would have liked to have done a 'see ya' show to thank you all, but such is the radio business. The show will still be on the air on WJFK in Washington, DC." THEY HAD NO RATINGS!!!! PERIOD!!! And, as its been said a hundred times, the reason they had no ratings was because the station was managed like crap. There was absolutely no promotion. Even O & A had to pretty much promote themselves with the WOW stickers. You obviously know absolutely nothing, and are really the one who has no life. I on the other hand, as do many of the listeners, have a successful job, a great wife and three terrific kids. It's funny that you tell everyone not to listen to what their "heroes" tell them, yet everything you say about radio stations and ratings and the like sounds exactly like what comes out of the mouth of several on-air disc jockeys I've heard on both WNEW and WXRK. And yes, for those of us that have real human emotions, it is sad when a radio show you've listened to and perhaps even called into just disappears. I myself will miss it greatly, as it used to be on both while I carried out and while I drove home from my full time job. And if my getting published, registering for college or recording demos (how's that for "doing something with my life"?) got in the way, I taped the show and listened later.
Okay, I realize that I'm starting to ramble here, but it just annoys me greatly when misinformed, empty-headed simpletons like HomerXXX sell a whole message board of nice and productive individuals down the river for listening to and thoroughly enjoying a radio show. But, I can't blame him...I'm sure it gets annoying having that huge stick up your ass day in and day out.

I hate to pick on other talk jocks but, if D & M or Leykis can carry any station given ample time, then surely a talented crew like Ron an Fez or O and A could. The latter crews actually have talent and great shows. If by chance the likes of philby or Homer XXX have any link to Stern, you're loyalties are wasted. The man has none and his creative talents left him after he copied his style at college radio. We've all been there, he just got lucky enough to continue it through firings and lucky connections. Overall, he doesn't have the abilities our buddies do to improv at the drop of a hat, or the voice talent and rants of O and A. Sorry, he got his pay and now talks of meetings at Nobu and setting up meditation rooms for his mother visits. Every man's life huh? Stern is the dork with a foul mouth who worked the system and gets credit because he never stops giving it to himself. Don't get me wrong, I used to listen and laugh. However, O & A and Ron & Fez eclispe his abilities by leaps and bounds by truly involving their audience (what you refer to as "the loosers") and actually being funny. Stern is truly a "shock jock", while the others were truly witty, funny and distant friends who you shared about 4 hours a day with. Enough explaining our lives to these shitheads people, if they're not a part of the crowd, they rip it. I'll miss the boys, but they will be back.

Well I guess Kingston got the last laugh. And Opie was so cocky everytime he pissed that guy off.
He won't succeed at NEW. He's just another me too management type and kissed enough ass to get where he is. In the end, O & A and R & F will rebuild the island and reef ecosystem due to true abilities and the firing of Kingston will be aired just as it was with Da Da Dave. Clear Channel awaits since Infinity decided to opt out of the marketing chance it will never again have. Until Stern is gone, air-talent will never prosper at Infinity/Viacom. What Imus did to Stern, Stern now does to EVERYONE else in the business. How anyone can respect that, I will never know.

The "lifeless" R/F looser must gone now. Off to my new hobby of ice hockey (wait I've played for years) and then I have a national net meeting in the morning with the DEA and FDA representing the fortune 100 company I work for.
