If wnew is flipping formats,which they obviously are why wouldnt they just flip,instead of playing the same few songs over and saying say tuned for the new station?it doesnt make any sense

well with form my experience in the music business... it's really a way to keep the people or in the words of a record exec said to me... the monkey's intertained
it may also be used to prepare you for as to what kind of format you will be listening to
like we do not have enough stations to do that for us

Infinity has..... <P>
the king of morning talk on a rock station who can't play well with others, so the station plays music....not more talk <P>
they had or have a successful evening drive talk show that took a bullet, even though they did what they get paid for and what was approved....on a (former) legendary rock station now playing stuff that isn't rock....still getting paid for talk, yet not earning a dime for the company.... <P>
that talk station also now has a homeless, yet growing Metal music show, and a TV talk show that still airs in the middle of music (not rock, or metal of course).... <P>
they have another talk duo in DC who can't seem to get along in NY and another show in LA.....both with good local ratings.... <P>
they have a (relatively) new talk duo who tried to work well with others in spite of being moved around to 5 different time slots, who proved they were team players (thank you very much) shifted once again with little or no warning.... <P>
I don't know much about the inside of radio.....but I'll bet a lot of very large paychecks have been cashed by people who claim they do know a lot, yet created this mess.... <P>
and that the legendary WNEW call letters are now in question, is just the final shame and disgrace.....but that kind of sensibility doesn't ever seem to matter to people like this.... <P>

The radio term for it is "stunting".
Someone on the Rock & Roll
Dentist's board asked a similar
question, so out of laziness, I'll
just paste how he explained it:
"Stunting" or "Audience
Cleansing" usually goes for a few
days (although anything can
happen). It has two basic
purposes:

1. To generate some interest in
the station so people who have
been ignoring it will become
aware something is happening.
The hope is that some of these
"new" listeners will sample the
new station when it debuts.

2. To chase off the remaining
listeners to the old format. Since
they will now be shooting for an
entirely different demo, the hope,
in this case, is that sister station
WXRK may pick up some of
WNEW's former listeners. At this
point, WNEW does NOT want its
former listeners.
