View Full Version : computer problem
I came home sunday night to my place. I always leave my computer on. I herd this funny noise comming from what I thought was the back of my computer. I then brought it to the guy I know who works at the electronic repair shop next door to my work. he told me without even looking at it, that I have to replace the Whole power suply unti, becuase the fan is a special size and cant be ordered by its self. The other option was to go to radio shack and see if they have the fan I need. I took it home today, opened it up, and found out its NOT the fan directly in the back of the computer. There is another small fan inside the computer not attached directly to the power suply, but to the motherboard that is making a somewhat loud noise. Now as much as I trusted this repair man, who Ive always thought was honest, I want a second oppinion.

its very possible that dust is caught up in the blades of the fan and is causing that sound. if you have a vacuum cleaner with the plastic nozzle run it over the blades...do not touch the other parts of the computer or the motherboard..you don't want a shock. keep the computer off when you do it. you can do that, or use an air blower to blow the dust off. either way that should take the noise out of the fan.

I had the same problem , just clean the fan with a vacuum and all should be well. If the problem persists you can go to computer store and pick up a fan for $10-15. Good luck!

don't mess around pay 20 dollers and get a new power supply if it shorts out it will kill your whole computer. no joke. i've seen it happen and trashed many customers computers because they didn't want to change it. so buy a new one or get ready to buy a new computer.

I agree. Don't tempt fate. Bring it to a computer repair store. Too many of my clients have tried to fix thier own machines with disasterous results.
