View Full Version : Organ Donation? Would ya do it?

Would you donate any organs?
The reason I am asking this is because my family donated my mother's corneas. We would have donated more, but I think her other organs were so poorly damaged due to years of chemo and radiation.
I would gladly donate my organs, but I am so afraid some druggy-alcoholic-celebrity would buy mine. Celebrities have miraculously jumped to the top of the list ... while "ordinary" people have to wait years! It's amazing what money can get you!
{ And if I am talking about my Mom too much in my threads, just slap me! }

I have an endorsement on my license for organ donor. Especially my eyes. I have a sister who was born blind and I always wished that I could give her one of mine so that she could see (NO jokes, please) But I figure I would go for the next best thing and donate after death (not before, I hope)

I'm a donor (well according to my lisence). I have no need for my body once I'm gone so if it could help someone else it's worth it.
Although I have become a little freaked out b/c I saw a show once that basically said how do you know they will do everything to save you if they can use your organs for someone else, but I highly doubt doctors would let you die just for that reason.

I have no problem with it. My organs are pretty useless to me once I'm dead. I just feel bad for the guy who gets my liver.

I actually kind of get enjoyment out of the thought that if i achieve nothing in life, when i die i might quite possibly be able to save someone elses

Yes, it is on my license.
I haven't gotten around to making up a will but organ donation will be part of it.
Hmmm, crappy eyes, heart murmur, acid stomach, and Lord knows about my liver!-- slim pickins at best! :-)

if they wanted they could take them... i'm just too lazy to fill out the forms...
so maybe they'd be better off without them, then they'd be lazy too...

I REALLY want to donate, but I don't feel like standing on the DMV lines to get the sticker or whatever on my liscence.
I HOPE that when one of my organs is put in someone else, they'll suddenly be overcome by the need to hug bacon.
This is a bad night for me man. I'm totally off again.

For all you guys who said they want to be organ donors, please let your loved ones know before it becomes and issue. As a nurse I can tell you, this is a rough issue to have to bring up with already traumatized family members especially if the death was unexpected. It makes it much easier for all involved if your family members know ahead of time that this is something you truly wish to do and makes the health care provider feel less like vampires or gouls for asking grief stricken family members. So many people die each year while waiting for a suitable match for organ donation. It's really a wonderful way to do one last unselfish act and I know I for one will need all the good karma I can get when my time comes! So, if you haven't already, let your loved ones know your wishes. It might inspire them to consider it as well.

I put a note on my drivers licence by the organ donors box that sez: "Just make sure I'm dead". Donating organs is fine, as is donating blood.

Of course. There are few better charities than organ donation.

I would donate all my organs if it meant to save another persons life. I guess it would give my exsistance some meaning knowing that I could help someone even after my life is forefit.

Listen. Does ANYONE know how to get these stickers to put on your liscence to TELL emergency workers I want my organs to be used once I'm fucking dead?
I DO NOT want to wait on DMV lines!! I'd rather my organs ROT with the rest of me than wait on lines.

Organ donation? Absolutely.
As Soccer Mom pointed out, it's ESSENTIAL to discuss all this stuff with your family. Even if they don't aggree with your decision (for who knows what reason) it's something that they have to come to terms with. It's important to discuss it NOW, while you're able to, that have resentment over not being consulted once you're dead.

As George Carlin once remarked: "If you get into a car accident, and the doctors see that you're a donor, you think they're gonna save you? BULLSHIT they're lookin' for parts!"
