... and other radio programs, including currently cancelled/fired radio personalities. Pay a subscription and invest in reception equipment, and then ratings would not be so life-and-death for a radio program.

I'd subscribe to XM if Ron and Fez were available on it. Would the rest of you Ron and Fez's fans be willing to shell out a subscription fee?

However, XM Satellite also requires FCC licenses to operate, so don't count on technology to protect from religious zealots that offensive/cringe radio by certain cancelled/fired radio personalities.

I'd certainly pay for Ron&Fez and O&A... And I think it's like satelite TV and cable, the FCC can't censor it if you pay for it :) <P>

Every transmission source using radio waves needs a license from the FCC to use specific allocated frequencies.

So yes, despite a subscription, the FCC regulate content and can pull any license for XM, cable, TV, radio like WNEW, in view of consumer complaints. Rare but it happens. That what could have happened to WNEW if WNEW didn't fire a certain "offensive" radio program involved in some St. Patricks Cathedral event, and thereby appease the consumer complaints.

I would subscribe too and I'm sure a majority of the people on this board would. But I doubt R&F or O&A would make the jump to XM just yet. It's still in it's infancy like cable in the early 80's. Maybe someday...

I don't have cable TV 'cause it's too damned expensive, but if I could get Ron & Fez on pay radio I'd sign up in a New York minute.

Not yet, Moe. We're looking for a peaceful solution to all of this. We can always take out contracts later.

XM is a satellite radio broadcast. To receive XM you need to buy the receiver and the antenna. XM is a subscription based service that costs $9.95/month with a (sometimes waived) $40.00 activation fee. Cost for the receivers seems to run between $150.00-$500.00 but the catch is that the antenna is extra and can cost between $100.00-$300.00. Some retailers are discounting however.

Being subscription based they can run most any programming they want because it is not "free to air" It is very similar to satellite and cable TV services.

To get xm you can either install a XM compatibly car deck. ALpine and Pioneer reguire an addition XM box along with anteana9sp?) Sony offers a little modulator that you can use in the home and car for 199. Xm also has something called SKYFI which is a little walkman size box that plugs into a boombox setup that you can carry with you. If you need anymore info go to
www.xmradio.com Their website is very good.
I persoanlly have the Alpine setup because my whole car stereo is Alpine and I work for P. C. Richards so I got every dirt cheap. :)

I'll bet Don Henley's just about as proud as a man who just beat kiddie-porn charges on a technicality.
