One thing that drives me crazy is when someone complains about something in their life over and over, and yet it is their own fault. And when you tell them this, they actually get perturbed at you.

I have a friend of mine who I have known for about 15 years. I recently talked to him. He gave me his usual "no I am not dating - I can't meet the right girl" thing.

I asked him: "Have you stopped drinking beer (everynight)?" His answer: No.

Have you gone out to any clubs to meet any women lately? His answer: No.

Have you lost any weight? No.

Ok, so some woman is going to come knocking on your door to go out with you, right? I just told him, it was his own fault he hasn't met anyone.

Was I wrong or have you met someone like this that drives you nuts?

His frustration isnt that he cant get women, its that he cant get women AND be the way he is at the same time. I don't think it's a question of "right" and "wrong." It's done and can't be undone. The question becomes whether you feel the person is worth staying friendly with or whether the traits you see as negative necessitate terminating the friendship.

The traits you described in your friend, do not present this person in the best light. Yet he must have redeeming features. You consider him a good person and hang out with him.

Your friend, may have adopted the philosophies espoused in the book and realized that the internal person is most important. Eventually he will meet a woman who feels the same.

To tell you the truth, I did at one point years ago, have a serious relationship with him. We have been just friends for many years. (He lives in another state now, and I really haven't talked to him in about a year.)

My anger stemmed from the fact that (from comments he made over the phone) that he still wanted a romantic relationship with me. I did not feel the same. I guess, I was angry that he still carried these feelings for me, and basically hasn't gotten on with his life. I felt guilty or felt like I was the "bad one" for wanting out of any type of romantic relationship with this guy. At times after talking to him, I really feel guilty and bad.

There are many fat, ugly, obnoxious men who don't lack for female companionship. There are many thin, handsome, nice men who can't get a date.

I understand this. I truly believe that aggressiveness has a lot to do with men getting women.

He really wasn't all that fat - maybe 25 lbs. overweight, but he did drink. I wouldn't classify him as an alcoholic as it hasn't really interfered with his life. He has maintained a good job at a company for almost 11 years.

I totally agree with what is espoused in her book and know that it is what is inside that counts. I just fell out of love with this guy for various reasons. Sometimes I wish I never got involved with the relationship at all.
