This question is open to all, but I ask HK because he's probably researched this one already. I know that most excercise eqipment fads sold on tv are bogus and deliver minimum results, if any. But BowFlex has been around awhile, and the ads really have me thinking about getting one. The main reason it's attractive to me is the whole workout at home aspect. Mainly, I'm asking for responses from those who have one, or know someone who has/had one. And of course, your majesty's input is greatly appreciated/anticipated.

Well, I don't know too much about BowFlex as I have a Total Gym 1000 ( endorsed by Chuck Norris) Those kinds of machines are good if you want a quick workout but nothing beats going to a gym. There kind of a suppliment and after a while they tend to dissapear under the bed, or they make a good clothes hanger.

Since I haven't been able to move very well since 1991, I haven't looked into any exercise machines lately - at least those without remote controls.
My wife, however, is (among many other things) a personal trainer. She says the Bow Flex looks pretty good, but it won't compare to going to a gym.
The advantage however, is that it is in your home, and you may be more motivated to use it than treking out to the gym and back.
Any solidly designed machine will improve your physique if you use it and watch your diet.

I haven't used the BowFlex. But I do know that Dr. Ellington Darden, one of the core group involved in the development and testing of Nautilus machines, endorses the BowFlex. He claims at least one study has shown results superior to weight/machine training. Whether he is saying this because he believes it, or because he's being paid, I don't know.
The two keys are to use a very slow, controlled movement while doing any weight exercise, and to continue each set to the point of momentary muscular failure. It is the intensity, not the quantity, of the exercise, that will determine the quality of the results.
Training at home requires a special sort of motivation, so make sure you have it before you invest in such an expensive piece of equipment. You may want to start by just buying a $20 pair of dumbells and see if you use them, or it they lay around gathering dust.
Good luck!

Bow flex is good. But im going to try the cheaper version the crossbow. I dont know about you but 2 grand is way out of my reach. 750 for the same thing +that 6week guarentee thing is a better investment 2 me. www.thecrossbow.com

Thank you all for your advice. I'm leaning even more towards getting one now.

Personally, I think that, while the Bowflex may work, it's a better and cheaper idea to take the $$$ that you would have spent on the Bowflex, join a gym, and also purchase a weight set (bench, weights, dumbbells, etc.) for use at home. I mean, the Bowflex Ultimate is $2,000 - you could get a bench, an Olympic weight set and a set of variable dumbbells for about $600-$700 total, leaving at least $1,300 for gym membership or whatever.
But, that's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

It's easy to determine which machine is best: Examine the models and bodybuilders who are hired to say they use the machine. Then find out what gym they go to.

Horde King,
Your magesty, may I ask what happened to you in 1991???
I am intrigued by your post.
I had a quite severe motorcycle accident myself on 89 and I was wondering if it was something of the like.
Peace & Hugs.

or they make a good clothes hanger.
My uncle had either a bowflex or a soloflex and would iron his clothes on it then hang it up on the machine.
Hed get drunk on the weekend then throw the clothes on his bed and show visitors how decievingly difficult the rubber bands were to move...
