Are my new favorite band. The only thing I've been listening to for the past few weeks. I suggest you check em out if you haven't yet.

The Ataris were cool. Their only pitfall was that berzerk, centipede-fingered guitarist who used to be very combative with the other members, always invading their space. And the lead singer sounds like he has a frogger in his throat. ge ge ge

Well first there was the legendary 2600, which really started the whole revolution. Then there was the less popular, but slightly more advanced 5600. This is the one I happen to have owned. Then there was the breakthrough 7800, which really turned heads with its backward compatibility for the older 2600 cartirdges. If you want to look at the portable market, Atari attempted to compete with Nintendo and Sega with their Lynx system. Unfortunately its size and battery management did not appeal to most buyers and the system soon met its inevitable fate. After that, Atari merged with Hasbro and is currently developing software titles like Frogger 3D, Stuntman, Test Drive, and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. I hope that helped answer your questions about the Ataris.

I picked up the new album today and was like "ok, I'll give it a shot".

Man, what an AMAZING record. I was so blown away by it and I am gonna give End Is Forever another listen.

Titled, So Long, Astoria the albumn starts off with a charge ont he title track and really never lets up. I personally like how a record can hit certain notes or even melodies that just make me tingle and there are so many just great hooks and musicianship in this one. Ok, so they fall into the "punk" category but I really don't give a fuck what it gets labelled, I just know it is really good and so very pobvious that the songs come from the heart. Kind of like The Ataris "Dear You" in a way as I think there will be little press and airplay of this which is a crime. It always happens with the great albums. The cover of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" is awesome and I can really not say enough good about this band now. I picked up the first one tonight too and THAT was great too. They even cover Jawbreaker on that one!

They're trying too hard to sound like ALL.

ALL, really?

I didn't pick that up but then again maybe just by default, I figure all bands in the punk genre try and sound like ALL or the Descendents.

Actually with their new album (so long astoria), the ataris have really veered away from writing about realationships. I like the new album, but its a little different from their old stuff.

Their lyrics are just incredibly well written, and they really make you feel like you know exactly what they're talking about.

And the Boys of Summer cover is awesome.

I suggest downloading "Beautiful Mistake" off of Kazaa - it was a track that got cut off the new album, but I think its one of their best.

Of course now they're playing "In This Diary" on KRock which means when I go to an Ataris concert I will be surrounded by 14 year old girls that I will inveitably end up trying to kill in some way, but I guess thats ok, the ataris have been around forever and deserve to finally get some airtime. But if they show up on TRL I'll have to kill myself.

I really need to start just ignoring it when a band gets onto a major label when they used to be an indie for so long. It can be good and it can be bad. As long as the music is still honest and heartfelt when it all comes down to it that is all that matters.

This record is growing on me in a really unhealthy way.
