Happy Black History Month everyone. I'm glad there is at least a month where we can learn more about and celebrate important black leaders in our country which is not always taught (at least as much as it should be), but in my opinion very important. Our country has come along way since Martin Luther King Jr.'s day, but we still have a lot of work to do.

And on that note, I'd like to ask why is the shortest month of the year designated as Black History Month....just another case of the Man trying to keep them down??? Discuss.

I am of the opinion that any hilighting of a race is in of itself a bit racist. I understand the idea behind it, promote understanding and all. But really, blacks are just as racist as whites, asians as hispanics. No one ethnic group has a corner on the market. I still can't understand how the Miss Black America Pagent or the Congressional Black Caucus can still be allowed to exist. What's a cracker like me supposed to think?

Most white people can't accurately understand me because they didn't grow up like me. And when they see us complaining about our problems in the world they think we're whining. I look at white kids who have everything and commit suicide because of bad grades, or shoot up their schools because they didn't have friends and because I didn't grow up like them I can't identify and I would tend to think they're whining. You however might know exactly where they're coming from and given half a chance maybe you could have helped them through their problem because you could empathise. And as much as I believe in the spirit of the American dream and in the biblical truth that it should be self evident that God created all men and women equal, the reality of LIFE in and of itself is that that isn't the case. The problems that seperate us due to culture and color are as old as the day man was made into being and go far beyond America. I think that the reason black people have a black congressional caucus or any other coalition of black leaders is so that there are like minded people with some kind of political stroke that can accurately identify with us. If I can't identify with you and I'm in a position of authority then all I can see when you ask me for help is how much is it going to cost me. A black leader might not think I'm whining when they see me cry out for help whereas a white leader might very well think "Well look here's another one with his hand out". Me as a black man all I want is to be regarded on the same level as any other man. But I have to produce facts that back up my claim because no one is going to accept that I'm just as good until I prove it. American history in and of itself is white. And there is no need for any white person to prove that their people have done some amazing things for the betterment of this country because the great things white people have done were taught to me at an early age. I know for a fact that white people did more than just own, lynch, waterhose, and sic dogs on us. The greatness of American whites is well documented. But we've done some great things too. And this month has been given to us to declare with boldness our pride in being black. It's sad though that we don't do it all year. It's sadder still that only in February is pride in simply being black emphasised but all during the year I see our entertainers and our sports figures showing their pride in being a thug and being a gangsta every day.

Please. Think back over all the history courses you took throughout grade school. This isn't an issue of "world history", just America's. America's history, white and black, are linked and deeply connected, yet we get far more of one over the other. This is, of course, going to be a given, since one group IS a minority, but even so, given the essential and unavoidable roles blacks played in our nation's history (Well beyond salvery), it's a little ridiculous how little they're included in public school history textbooks and courses.
