how come people do not know how to drive in the snow? is it just me or do people either go WAY TO FAST or WAY TO SLOW... there is never that middleground...

throughout my years of driving, i've noticed really no matter what type of snow and how deep it is, on a road... 35 mph can be done safely.

watching people stopping int he snow is even funnier. they hit their brakes like they normally would... i just laugh at them go skidding off the road.

you have to gradually step on your brake. always keep distance.

Also, in this weather... if you have to run a light, run the light. you will not get pulled over. If it is unsafe for you to stop... just put your hand on the horn and go through it.

I've always been a fan of W123 Mercedes, specifically 79-84 TurboDiesel 300Ds. You all probably see at least one a day on the road.

The problem with them is, they're simply AWFUL in the snow, they're rear wheel drive, turbocharged and almost two tons. For snow driving I keep a 96 Toyota Camry in the driveway as well.

Anyway, I was considering buying an 82 and was with the owner for a test drive. I drove down in my Camry in about an inch of snow and went out with him for the drive, he got about ten feet into the road and decided to show me how well the car accelerated.

Bad idea.

Somewhere in the area of 2,000 RPM, where the Turbo starts to produce real gains the car went from a straight line to sideways. Right into a telephone pole. I ended up buying that car for parts for a quarter of what he originally wanted.

The morale of the story is: when in snow, gather momentum gradually, and don't lose it.

Yeah.

i also just finished a very long trip to work. my problem is with the people driving up a hill that stop. once you stop going uphill you're done. this lady in her Saturn kept slowing down and making others stop. these cars then couldn't get going again and people were sliding all over the place. i was able to get around some, but most would rev their engine and end up sliding into the other lanes. so the people who STOP for no apparent reason are the people i'm least happy with right now. hopefully the plows are out there and clean things up by 5 o'clock.
