with the snow we have outside today...

it is a very light powdery snow... so it isnt that bad on the back... you can use nearly any type of snow blower or even a push broom for the snow.

but when there is more moisture in the atmosphere... the snow is heavy and wet... thats when we all suffer from back problems...

i still say the best way is to pay some young dumb niave kid $10 bucks to shovel my driveway... and i dont even have the curtosy to give him a reach around

I try to find a shovel that hasn't been f'ing sawed off!

My landlord left us a shovel that's a foot & a half was sawed off the top of the handle. I'm 5'8" and kill my back if I use it. My roommate, on the other hand, is 5'2", so it's perfect for her.

Today, I can't shovel anyway; I am a gimp with one hand in a cast. :(

When I have a decent shovel, I lift with my legs, not my back, so I get a glutes/quads/hamstring workout along with a pretty decent abs workout. :) I miss those.

I love to shovel snow, especially at night, when it's dark and quiet. It's really peaceful and a great workout. Of course, I'd still rather go skiing in some fresh powder than spend my time shoveling it. Roadtrip anyone?

I am also a dumb naive kid who is getting $25 for shoveling a walk and short sidewalk stretch. Suckers!

you know, your landlord is required to do that. he is supposed to maintain the property, that includes shoveling snow, leaves, grass, etc etc etc...

i know in the state of new jersey, if you do not have your sidewalk shovelled within 24 hours of the stoppage of snowfall, you get a $200 fine. and every day is another $200 fine.

Always bend at the waist, keeping your knees locked and your legs as straight as possible. This alleviates any strain that may be placed on your legs and allows your back to do a majority of the lifting work. Also remember the faster and harder you shovel, not only will it get you done sooner, but it will also give your heart exactly the exercise it needs. This advice is especially true for the elderly.
