Were great! I really miss them, and I wish that they would make a comeback.
I went to the one in Valley Stream and the one in The Bronx, along with many others in other parts of the country.

There's still a big one up in
Warwick, NY. I pass it every
day while driving my route and
I always say "One weekend I'll
come up here for old times'
sake". I just wind up going
to the pub and getting
trashed, though.

Last drive in theater I went to was in Little Ferry, NJ. I saw The Exorcist when it first came out. Scared the fecal matter out of me.

They were so cool EMB. As a kid you wore your pajamas and most drive-ins had playgrounds so you can play before the film started.
Suddenly, as you are playing, they start rolling a countdown on the screen! 15 minutes til showtime! They start running ads for the refreshment stand...dancing hot dogs, ice cream cups jumping around, some really strange cartoons. Finally..after the countdown..It is now showtime!

As a kid, I was treated to
such cinematic gems as "Herbie
the Love Bug", "Son of
Flubber", and "Superdad" on
the jumbo screen.

As if they wouldn't be just as
entertaining on a 13" black
and white TV screen.

I remember going to see bad Elvis flicks at a drive-in located near my family's country house in Danbury CT.
My cousin and I would sneak out of the back of the station wagon and spy on couples "doing it", along with sneaking to the snack bar and shoplifting candy. We usually hated the movie that was playing..we loved the cartoons they ran.

damn it! i knew this thread existed. the stupid search engine on this site needs to be fixed. it never finds any thing.

I remember going to the drive in florida with my grandparents. We saw rambo first blood or whatever it was called.

Then the summer after sixth grade I went to canada with my friend leslie and her fam and we saw Sleepless in seattle.

Drive ins are fun. I wish they still had them.

I loved the Valley Stream Drive-In. When I was 12, I remember sitting in the Green Acres Parking Lot with my buddies and watching "Revenge Of the Cheerleaders" without the sound and drooling over the 15 foot boobies.

Too bad they tore it down, it's now known as the "Murderplex".

yeah i remember going to the Westbury one. The only other drive-in i've been to was(i hate to say it) in Pinellas Park, Fl. It was called the Mustang Fleamarket/theatre. That was a hole in the wall let me tell you. I don't think that's there anymore either.

I have never seen a drive-in theater that is still operational. There is one in middle Connecticut that is only used as a flea market. I had no idea they still existed. For some reason, I don't think I can sit still in my car long enough to watch a movie.

Another memory is the speakers with built in heaters for those chilly nights. Sometimes you would find a good spot but the speaker was broken, so you drove around looking for a good speaker. BTW, double features were always a staple at the Drive In.

My mom used to take me to drive ins all the time, unfortunately I was too young to appreciate them. I don't really remember much about them...just going with my neighbors and always ending up falling asleep in the back of the station wagon.
I think I may have seen Grease in a drive-in (I dragged my mom out to that one like 7-8 times :p) and I think I saw American Graffiti too but I could't even tell you a thing about it..I have an awful memory.

I only went to one Drive-In movie: "Fletch." It was kinda sucky because my grandparents drove me there.

It got real bad after that...when the movie was over the "Breakfast Club" came on. Damn. My grandparents flipped out because of their -potty mouths-, and we had to leave. Can you imagine, "Breakfast Club" at a drive-in? Old people stink.

I remember on Long Island there used to be one on Sunrise Hwy between Amityville and Babylon.

Down here in Va. we would go to one right behind my jr. high school. You could use your radio instead of the speaker. I saw Dawn of the Dead when it came out back in the early 80's. Then they started showing porno's -- it was like attack of the 90 foot boobs. LOL.... we would sneak out and watch from behind the school with transistor radios... Hell we were 13 what else did we have to do.

Wait just a cotton pickin minute, a porno drive-in behind a junior high school? I guess that fills the sex ed. requirement.

That's one helluva location. Does VA. have their Pre-School across the street from the abortion clinic?

"Damn, they couldn't get rid of it...well, I guess I'll just run across the street then." :)

Gvac, is that Warwick drive-in near Rt. 94, over the NJ border?

How was '80's drive-in porn different? Was it like Cinemax-don't-show-those-things kind of porn? Or more of a Bay Watch with lots of "oh's" and "ah's" thrown in?

I was 6 in 1980 and couldn't go, so I don't know my '80's porn. That's an excuse, I could have rode my Big Wheels down to the Drive-In Porn.

I wonder if the Pensyltuky drive-in porn is different than New Jersey porn. Like Amish people or something.

I think it was more like skinamax porn.

There used to be different types of porn... Old school lesson...

x - caligula, clockwork, midnight cowboy, show girls.
xx - cinemax late nite
xxx - debbie does dallas

still tamer than todays stuff. pornos used to have dialogues and plots. (well somewhat). It wasn't like today home video porn.
Boogie nights is a good example of how the porn industry has changed.

Heckler help me here.
Back in the early 80s most people didnt have vcrs and porn was not so readily available. It was pretty taboo until the late 80's when cable and vcrs became cheaper and more available across the country.

sorry i am rambling.

One more thing that drive in on in west babylon may have been on 109. God it has been almost 30yrs ago..

Before VCR's, porn was available in Movie Theaters or on 8mm film, for home viewing. Hell, I remember when they were called "Stag Films", you would watch them with a projector. Somebody in my group of friends always had a perverted Dad or Uncle, and we would sneak in during the day and look at films from places like Denmark and Sweden, featuring all kinds of sex. Some were shot in b/w, and there was no sound.
Boy, have times changed. LOL

as a kid our family went to the drive-in on 440 in jersey city, only movie I remember is PATTON with(mind went blank)
When I started driving, it was the drive-in in Newark...
The speakers were bulky and I kept thinking they were gonna break the window...
One other thing, both the girl and myself had no problem displaying our bare asses, kind of funny...
I know there were portable heaters too but I never went in the winter...

Hold the phone (no pun intended), a drive-in located in Jersey City? Newark? God, I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like today. Somehow guns would be involved. That would be a sight.

"Maximus that's right. You go blood! (fist raised and pumped in air) Kick that turkeys ass. F**k 'em up reeeeal good yo. F**k 'em 'til he loves you. (dry humping and more fist pumping) That's right! Yeah boyeeee...wait a minute, what's he doin'? Look out bro'! Oh no you dit'nt. (finger snap in "Z" formation) Oh sheeeeot. (goes to glove compartment and takes out the "9") This is what you get focker. (Shoots at screen, which ironically 10 other people are already shooting at)

OK,that's my rant for the evening. Although I wish I had my "9" when I saw "Someone Like You."

As a young teenager I remember going and seeing some horror flick at a now defunct drive in that was in Lagrange, NY. I think the movie was Silent Scream.

At least within the last few years there was an operating drive in in Hyde Park, NY (just north of Poughkeepsie). Living in VA now I'm not 100% that it's still used but I think it is.

There are TONS of Drive-In Movies in Ohio still... If anyone ever decides to visit, let me know and I'll tell you how to get to one. They even show "Current" movies - the last one I saw was a double feature of American Pie and South Park, back when they were both relatively new... at which time I realized that sitting in the car for a flick is only fun when you're 5 years old, getting laid, or some combination of the two... ;P

Big ups to HECKLER for remembering pajamas at the drive in!

At the one that was in Fredericksburg, Va, all you had to do was wait about 10 minutes after the movie started and you could drive in and not pay, cuz the person taking admissions would move to the snack bar.

Remember the Cheech and Chong bit about the drive in?

[color=purple]I hit the Fair Oaks just outside of Middletown a couple of times every summer.

Highly recommended, and if you hop off route 17 just two exits before it, at exit 120, there's tons of chain restaurants to chose from. Also, leave a little time to hit the Galleria mall, one of the best I've ever been to.

Be sure to get off the thruway at exit 15, instead of 16, and catch 17-west 16 miles sooner that way. It adds about an extra 1/2 hour to the trip, but makes for some real nice scenery (and the road is nice and twisty for any motorcycle riders out there). Stopping at the Red Apple Rest for a cup of coffee and some pie adds even more nostalgia to the whole 50's-style drive-in thing. Back in the 40's, 50's and 60's, when the Catskills were in their hey day, this road, and this restaurant, were like a mecca for NY'ers looking for a day in the country.

Still makes for a great escape.

<marquee><b>Now let's see what some of the critics are saying about GaryWyze... Ron Bennington, one 1/2 of the radio duo Ron & Fez: <u>"Gary Wyze is a funny, funny comedian"</u> ... IrishAlkey, one 1/2 of the drunken sex duo Alkey & Silera: <u>"Gary = God"</u> ... Rory Hampton, former radio producer and well know Aryan: <u>"GaryWyze IS the Godfather!"</u> ... <u>EastSideDave: Forget Jesus, GaryWyze is my savior</u> ... Chairman Kaga, Chairman of the RF.NET Message Board: <u>"Gary is hysterical, absolutely hilarious, he truly is The Don</u> ... When I started driving, it was the drive-in in Newark...

Foundry Street off of Rts 1&9

I used to live in Down Neck Newark for 18 years. As a child we would drive by the Drive In either coming home from my grandmother's house or going to my aunt and uncle's house.

I remember catching glimpses of N.L.'s Animal House,Vacation, Friday the 13th for about 1 minute at a time.

I never actually went to the place.

The last Drive In to exist in N.J. was the one at the Rt. 34 circle near the shore.

I have to check out the one on 17 in Middletown in NY.

Went to the drive-in in Warwick, NY this w/e with my wife and son. Three screens. (We saw Freaky Friday - not a terrible movie) Anyway, the place was packed. Two movies for the cost to get in. The best way to see a movie. I forgot how much fun it was - brought back alot of memories of the Paramus drive-in. No handy this time though (sheepy horn).

There are still two drive ins operating up in Dutchess County. The Hyde Park Drive In on rt 9 north of the Culinary Institute and the Overlook Drive In on Overlook Rd just outside the city of Poughkeepsie-Taconic north to 55 west-Overlook is on the right. We took the kids to the Overlook this summer and saw that Rowen Adkins movie and Pirates of the Carribean. It was a fun, cheap night out and worth the trip, but be warned the restrooms are a little gross.

Patton would have been a cool movie to see in a drive in. That movie would still be great if it was shown on a bed sheet stretched out in against the garage.

I just saw the "Wellfleet Drive-In" yesterday here on Cape Cod. They were playing "Seabiscuit". If I wasn't staying so far from it I would so be there.

my mom has a drive-in in her town....even though she lives all the way in New Hampshire (Woodsville), those lucky stiffs still have an active drive-in out there. I was out there on the 4th of July and they were playing Terminator 3 and some other movie. I always say that one time I have to stop in there someday, but my lazy-ass is too busy pigging out on mom's cooking!

Just for the record, I used to go out to the westbury drive-in and NEVER watced a movie! I always went with some girls that loved to fuck.

As a kid my favorite drive-in was the 110. It had the train as was mentioned earlier but from what I can remember, it had other rides also. I seem to also remember an antique fire engine ride unless I am mixing up my memories.

Also, I have also gone to the Red Apple rest over the years. Unfortunately it is very run down and a shadow of its former self but it definetly gives you a strong feeling of nostalga. If memory serves, it used to have its own roadside motel.

BTW, there is still a completely operational drive-in in great condition in Lancaster, PA in the town of Columbia. It is called the Columbia drive-in and I believe it is on Lincoln Highway.

Here is a link to a cool drive-in site.
