I just saw a great movie from 1995 called ABOVE SUSPICION featuring Christopher Reeve, Kim Cattrell & Joe Mantegna.

If you can find it (on vhs only) at your local BlockBuster...I highly recommend it. The movie had a kick-ass ending!

CHECK IT OUT!!

as a sidenote...this was Christopher Reeves last movie before his accident. In a cruel twist of irony, his character is in a wheelchair for this film. He spent several months pretending to be paralyzed..... they finihsed the movie....and he broke his neck.
How much does that suck?!

I saw that flick -- good one.

I'd say "The Shawshank Redemption" for best ending.

I agree on Shawshank -- it's one of my favorite movies
of all time and it's excellent that Freeman is narrating
the whole story in retrospect -- once he's already
culminated his journey.

But The SamNYC Best Ending Award goes to Ang Lee
for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The ending seemed
to be "neither here nor there" on first viewing but now
I see it really catalyzed the rest of the film.

Also I hope you've seen Afterlife, a Japanese movie you
can find dubbed in New York. Check it out.

My most satisfying movie ending has to be from American History X where the terminator kid gets killed by two black kids in the bathroomthat was one of the most awful endings i've ever seen. so horrible...

of coarse all of waking life is good..excellent eveni thought waking life was way overrated. the animation was amazing, but the movie itself was mediocre, in my opinion. i found it to be somewhat superficial for something that was meant to be so profound

THANK YOU. I loved the animation, but nearly every scene felt like a stereotypical, Gen-Xer, "this is what a Linklater film is SUPPOSED to be like" sorta deal...a little too forced and hip for its own good...

Thank you, you're the first person who agrees with me. The reviews said there was a "surpise ending" so the whole time I was watching it I thought that it was all going to be a fantasy in the head of the kid who was the Samuel L. Jackson's character as he read the comic book his mother gave him. And then they suprised me.

Another good ending is in the original Dirty Harry, where the bad guy is saying 'there's nothing you can do to me, I'll say I'm crazy". And Harry blows his head off.

Technically its not even animation...its just rotoscoping...they actually filmed live actors.

I like it for different reasons. For me Unbreakable encapsulates everything I love about comic books...taking a generic theme of a comic book and turning it into a tangible, and most importanlty plausible story...that you could be a superhero and not even realize it...that your antithesis may be out there, somewhere, looking for you....so he can justify his own existence because evil cannot exist without good...that heroes do exist in this world and the villains dont always shoot lightning bolts and the heroes don't always wear spandex with thier superhero logo on them. (see my i hate logos thread).

so i guess finding out mr glass rigging the train was the catalyst for the entire story makes complete sense to me and just blew my mind...i love that movie dearly...

fuck signs.

FMJeff, we're almost on the same page regarding "Unbreakable". The thing I liked about it is it was real, not a fantasy. The Bruce Willis character was a plausible hero and the Samuel L. Jackson character really did evil things.

I didn't see "Signs". I only like Mel Gibson movies where he's a Scottish folk hero.

I have a bunch of movies in which I liked the endings...but the one that stands outn most in my head HAS to be " SLIDING DOORS" with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Sorry...I was forced to watch this flik by a female friend....and to sit there...and watch that chick flik, and all the crap she goes through with her b.f. cheating on her, and her other self finally finding love and all that ...ONLY TO HAVE HER CROSS THE STREET, SAY "I LOVE YOU" to her new boyfriend...AND A BUS HIT HER !!!! I never EVER laughed to hard and for so long in my entire life. As I type this now I am laughing hysterically thinking about the ending of that movie. That has to be, in my humble opinion, the MOST SATISFYING ENDING of all the movies I have ever seen.
