View Full Version : NYC Radio Is Not Innovative Anymore

We are the #1 market for all forms of media, and we are a goddamned discrace to that rank. Ron and Fez along with O&A were the most dynamic radio shows on in this city EVER. And now what do we have? That's right. A Carbon copy of every Z-morning zoo-ish cluster F available in every state in the Union. Fuckin disgrace is what it is. We were the most loyal fans in radio, along with the greatest callers in radio adding just as much comedy as our beloved boys. Infinity, in it's severly deformed wisdom, felt that it was best to surround it's remaining flagship show (R&F) with Tom Leykis during afternoon drive. Even Leykis admitted that all his NYC listeners could fill the back of a Volvo. And as if that knuckleball wasnt enough...Infinity clog-danced back in and flipped formats.
Some fans who I have contacted state that there is a possibility that K-Rock (92.3) might become home port for our buddies. God I hope there is truth in that. I even tried to listen to WNEW last night just for nostalgia, you know, just to see the 102.7FM glowing behind my AIWA faceplate. It was hard to take when I was looking at that while hearing "Jenny from the block." this truly is a dark day for us fans, and an even harder ordeal for guys like Staples, Dukes, and my favorite - Black Earl. What will become of them?
Oh well, I guess all market # 1 means is another summer of Z100's Paul "Cubby" Bryant making friggin' funny faces on NJ Turnpike billboards.
Today I take off my hat and hold it to my chest in sorrow thinking of all the good things that are now gone. I am a soldier without a general, and the battlefield ahead lies barren. God help us.

I've heard this so many times, but yea. I agree of course.
I have NOT listened to anything but O&A and R&F until they were gone for like 2 years.
And before that I said FUCK YOU to Stern like 2-3 years before that. So I was listening to NOTHING.
I don't need shitty talk shows, tired Zoo formats and top 40 telling me what's hot and what's not.
CD's and 77AM is all I use the radio for now.

From all that I've heard, NYC as a #1 market is pretty much no different from DC's #7 market...except that you just have MORE crappy stations to choose from. Ouch.

Oh boy, you mean those wack-zane-arific trim spa commercials cabbie does? Who boy, now that's comedy...especially when they are played 800 times a day. I'm moving to Korea.

NYC Radio has turned into "cookie cutter" radio. The same boy band and rap songs being played a million times a day. We dont even have a decent rock station. Once in a while Q104 will throw in a pearl jam song. And K ROCK is pathetic. Since when is eminem rock? The biggest radio market in the country has turned into the most pathetic

Do you people even browse the frequencies? There's plenty of good radio in the metro area.

I've been a big fan of Batchelor and Alexander on 770AM. Smart and sort of funny guys that talk about politics and the upcoming war. They are on from 9pm to 1am m-f. I used to listen to them during the commercial breaks, now all the time.

Radio sucks in NYC. 20 min away you can get 5 great music stations. In NYC just rap and top 20 crap

Somewhere on this board I was told about Joe Frank. He's only on for one one hour a week:

but he's hysterical.
His old shows can be found at:

Mountain Rain is my favorite. The last 30 minutes are great.
As for music radio, stations everywhere suck. The corporations are too afraid to try anything that isn't "proven". Even though they are only proven to suck.
Greetings from Tampa: The weather is here, wish the radio was beautiful.

You're right about that. KROCK isn't living up to its name. And I'm assuming Eminem is played on it because of the guitar rif on "Lose Yourself" and the fact that he's white.
I've officially sworn off that station... for a while now. Its all CDs and memories for me.

Well. I for one thank God that WNEW is going to become MTV/Entertainment Tonight on radio because Lord knows there just isn't enough media outlets devoted to celebrity worshipping.

Don't forget he has tats all over his arms...just like the guys of Blink182. That makes him perfect for Z100 too.

Hey all.new poster here but not for lack of trying. I was a huge fan of the boys since the .com days. For some reason My login info got screwed up, but thanks to Sabu, I'm all good now. NY radio is scary bad. I was just down in Miami for 4 days and sad to say they have more innovative radio there. I found myself so bad off the other day I was trying to tune in WYSP on the GSP in my car to listen to Don and Mike...at which point I pulled over and made myself sip from my gas tank. I hate the fact that the most interesting thing on NY radio is ESPN 1050. Not a bad station but not the shits and giggles of the boys. They were truly the best radio I have ever heard by doing comedy, but not resorting to the lowest form for a laugh. No stupid impressions (Iris and Nature Boy don't count) not much body humor..just 2 straight up funny SOBs and I truly miss them. Whew...I've needed to vent for a while. Thanks.
