The Chairman

The newest genre added to my expanding DVD collection...never got into them until now.

My top 5:

Rio Bravo
John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Walter Brennan.
Drama, action, comedy, a hot Angie Dickinson, songs. A classic!

The Searchers
John Wayne, Natalie Wood, Vera Miles, John Ford.
Perhaps the best, but a little politically incorrect. Obsession. Action. Excellent.

The Good, the Bad and The Ugly
Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, Lee VanCleef, Sergio Leone.
A little long but excellent.

The Wild Bunch
William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Sam Peckinpah
Sanguinary but great.

Red River
John Wayne, Howard Hawkes
All around great.

any other recommendations?

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has always been my favorite...

I remember my Dad bringing me to the theater when it came out...

There was a western musical with Clint and Lee Marvin, they teamed up and the title had "Red Wagon" in it... I remember watching it from beginning to end and enjoyed it immensely!

:)

I HIGHLY suggest you immediately pick up "High Noon" starring Gary Cooper, not only one of the best westerns ever made, but one of the best movies ever made

besides, Grace Kelly is ssssssssmmmmmoooookkkkinnnn' hot...

THOUGHT O' THE MOMENT:
Whats with JF Fortin and Rick Berry being scratched EVERY FREAKIN GAME? Are Joel Kwiatkowski and Jason Doig that much better?

Westerns. .. mmmm. . .

I'm partial to The Magnificent Seven, which, as you may already know, was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 1952 Seven Samurai. Having recently had the opportunity to watch the Kurosawa film, I eagerly await the John Ford western.

Another one I enjoy, though I doubt it's a "true" Western is Quigley Down Under. It's a highly underrated film, in my opinion, starring Tom Selleck and Laura SanGiacomo.

My father would recommend almost anything with John Wayne in it, especially The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and I have always had "a hankerin' " to see Unforgiven.

Oh, and that musical Funkman is referring to is Paint Your Wagon. . . I haven't seen it, but I have experienced parts of Oklahoma!, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical based upon Green Grow the Lilacs (both have been made into films).

I thought this thread was about running a Western blot.
(If this makes no sense, just ignore it and move along.)
