(February 24 - Uniondale, NY) The New York Dragons have relieved head coach John Gregory and his assistants of their duties, the team announced today. A successor to Gregory is expected to be named as early as tomorrow.
Gregory was in his ninth year with the Iowa/New York franchise, earning a record of 66-48. In three years in New York with the Dragons, Gregory was 11-21. The Dragons are currently 0-4 after finishing the 2002 season 3-11.
"You never want to make a change like this, especially when you're talking about a successful coach and a very good person like John Gregory," said Dragons senior VP Michael Picker. "But our fans deserve a winner. We're averaging more than 10,000 fans a game for three seasons and they expect results, so we're going to find the right coaching staff to get the most out of a very talented football team."
The Dragons' next game is this Sunday March 2nd at Nassau Coliseum, when they face the 4-0 Orlando Predators at 3:00 PM. The game will be televised by NBC TV and can be heard on 540 WLIE radio.
