For the last 6 years or so, Rock music has gone down the crapper. The majority of music on K Rock is nothing but pre processed rap/rock and wanna be punk bands.
During the time 1992 thru 1996 there was a lot of great music that came out like pearl jam nirvana etc. They werent into image, they just played kick ass music without all the fringe.
People got tired of the hair bands and glam rock of the mid to late 80s which paved the way for the "grunge" era.
These days almost every group looks the same. Covered with tattoos and 3 chord music.
Kinda makes you think when the #1 rapper is white and the #1 golfer is black

no it just makes makes me laugh.
and if you don't like the music on k-rock, don't listen. but i do agree most of the music on that station is very commercialized. and there are a lot of good underground bands out there, go find them.

Oh c'mon Wrestlingfan....All those 90ies bands were just as packaged and manufactured as the Hair-Metal bands in the 80ies and/or the Boybands of the 2000's.
They had the exact same wardrobe as each other. Played through the same exact gear. They all copped that same vocal style. They all worked with the same three producers. Yada yada yada.
Alot of those groups WERE hairbands that morphed into "grunge rockers" when they saw the bandwagon coming.
All music trends are just that...trends. You can't give one any more credit than another.

Good point. Im so sick of turning on gay rock and hearing this punk-pop shit IE Good Charlet. They all suck. I have a funny feeling this Metalica album is going to suck donkey balls. I say think positive, hopefully this is just how it goes for a little while longer. Before we know it there will be that one band that everyone talks about that just plain rocks and from there on in things pick up.

I can't even remember the last time I heard a new rock band that made me sit up and take notice. Most of the exciting new music in the past decade or so has been in other genres, and you'll only hear their music on college radio stations.

As much as it hurts to admit it... we are all turning into our parents. We all talk about how crappy music is nowadays. I don't wanna speak for anybody.... but it's probably safe to say that MOST (not all) of our fave bands now were bands that we first heard when we were in our teens or 20ies.
Kids today like Boyband harmonies they same way people in their 30 & 40ies loved vocals on BeeGee's or Abba records.
Jackson 5 turned into the New Kids turned into Backstreet Boys.
Marylyn Manson is this generations version of David Bowie.
Mutt Lange is the new Phil Spector (or George Martin)
Pink (or dare I say.... Avril) is the role model for young girls that Janice Joplin was way back when.
Slipknot is the new Kiss.
It goes on and on and on. I don't think new music needs a kick in the ass. I think we're just romanticizing the memory of our youths.

there is always GOOD music being created, guess you just have to look harder...
if time allows, sometimes it seems you only have enough time to listen to what's being overplayed on the radio...
i like to give credit to the new artists... i don't want to get into the "music is not as good as back in my day" state of mind...
our parents and grandparents had that opinion and we didn't like it...
a couple songs that I think are excellent:
Linkin Park - Doesn't Even Matter
SUM41 - Cause I'm In Too Deep
Eve Six - Inside Out
and the song from the end of American Pie, goes like this:
"If you could only see the way she loves me, then maybe you'd understand"
who does this song?

Kc is right on. There is more great shit out there and diverse at that. You simply have to look for it. For example, CMJ Music Journal, College Radio, Venues for unsigned bands like the Downtime and Arlene Grocery in NYC, 120 minutes on MTV2 (has seen better days though), and some Canadian stuff on Much. These are just a few, there are so many more. I have over 500 cds, and belong to a club that allows you to return disliked discs at full price. Hence I have listened over 900 discs in full according to my calculations. Radio has been corporate since Regan killed the antitrust/monopoly/sherman laws protecting small owners in large markets. This is the only reason one company can own so many stations in the same market. Think about it, twenty years ago the likes of Time Warner and AOL would never have gotten so wide ranging due to the laws, now they themselves have merged. What a joke! Hence we all suffer, yet most people like to be (no pun here) spoon fed, and trends show it.
