WWE To close the world

World Wrestling Entertainment announced today that it was closing down its Times Square restaurant The World and taking a $32.9 million loss on the facility.

Because of the facility loss, the company lost $26.7 million for the quarter.

The restaurant will close today and the adjacent retail store will close on 4/27.

Linda McMahon in a press release claimed they will reallocate resources to growth of global business instead of focusing on a single site local project.

The company is still estimating an annual gross of $370 million to $375 million and annual profits for the fiscal year, which ends at the end of April, of $27 million to $30 million.

I went there to watch No Mercy last year and it was a pretty cool experience. Sure its nothing like a live show, but you got to keep those cool chairs which I got signed by Spike Dudley( HO HO).

Damn, I never even got a chance to get ripped off in there. I stopped by the store for 30 seconds once, but then went to eat at ESPN-Zone. Another missed opportunity.

I for one will not miss it. My hubby and I went down there one time. I could not go down the stairs so I asked if they had any handicap access. I was waved towards the back of the store. I found an elevator behind some boxes of merchandise and got in. When the doors opened downstairs, I thought I had pushed the button marked "HELL". It was a sweltering day and the temperature in the restaurant was easily twice as high as outside. The place didn't even look as though they were still in business. My husband stopped by at Christmastime with some out of town relatives. They couldn't get anyone's attention for service, disgusted they left. Idea, good. Execution, no good.

Seriously, who cares. I will repeat the sentiment like many of have you noted, too expensive for their food and sadly their lack of merchandise blows as well.

Only good reason to be in The World is if you can get an autograph but why waste your time? Really.

I liked it. I had my bachelor party dinner there before heading off to a strip club. I liked the buckets of cold beer and I thought the wings were decent. It was not bad. And it was no more overpriced than any other theme restaurant in times square. I like espnzone better but isnt that more expensive.

I had a goddamned heart attack when I saw the price of their food in comparison to the SAME DAMN DISHES served in my old store. A basic burger was DOUBLE THE PRICE.

My foundest memory was having my pic taken with Stephanie McMahon. She was so cool, she stayed and made sure everyone there got an autograph &/or pic. This was when WWF & KRock had some promo thing going.

I was just there in late january where i met Tommy Dreamer & got an autograph plus having a pic with him and my brother.

I guess all things have to come to an end.
