DANE COOK is my new fave. He's the best of both worlds because he can do physical comedy like Jim Carrey AND his observational stuff is 2nd only to Jerry Seinfeld.

I grew up worshipping PRYOR and CARLIN (of course) so I gotta put them on the list.

Honorable Mention goes to CHRIS ROCK. His delivery is the shizzo.

Chris Rock is the best comedian today. Bigger & Blacker in my mind is the greatest comedy special ever made.

Really? I thought it was a weak follow up to Bring the Pain. That was one of the best standup performances I've ever seen, a benchmark. Rock put himself on the level of Richard Pryor, George Carlin (much as I hate to admit it), Eddie Murphy, and Lenny Bruce with that one.

it may have not been the caliber of bring the pain but i wouldn't call it weak. it's still 10 times better than most comedians. actually 100 times. i remember the first time i watched it i kinda thought it wasn't as good, but the more i watch it i realize it is fucking hilarious adn intelligent.

but why hate to admit carlin, he's the greatest of all time.

Most comedians do an hour long show with peaks and valleys. Eddie Izzard did almost 2 hours and was consistently hysterical throughout.

hard to pick just one so here's my top 3:

Robert Schimmel - the bluntest MFer out there

David Cross - absolutly nothing is out of bounds for him, he can make anything funny no matter how sick it is.

Eddie Izzard - very unique, and his one man shows are great from top to bottom

With an Honorable mention for Richard Jeni, except for the fact that his act hasn't changed in 10 years.
