View Full Version : Is It A Bad Idea To Wash My Sneakers?

I have a relatively new pair of Nike sneakers and I was caught in the rain the other day and now they fucking reek. I just bought them like 2 months ago and don't have the cash for a new pair. Would throwing them in the washer and dryer shrink them at all or fuck up the material and/or rubber?

if it's just a matter of smell, make a paste of water and baking soda and smear it on them inside and out - make sure youtake out the insole - and let it dry. Then rinse them off, and let them dry again - but not on a heater or anything, because that can melt the glue that holds the sole on, etc.
Make sure they're really dry and the insole is really dry before you put the insole back in.
Or else you could just toss them in the washer on cold - take off the shoelaces or make sure they're tied really really tightly. Just dont put them in the dryer (bad for your dryer). Or you could just spray them with a deoderant. Go to any big shoe store or sporting goods store; you'll find lots of products to clean your shoes.

How about you take a shower with them on and later them up real good.
Then shake dry like a dog!

They're drying on the floor as we speak. They look brand new. I can lick the soles.... in fact, I think I'll do that right now!
Mmmm... shoe sole...

Why would the sneakers "reek" from being caught in the rain?
There are a number of commercial products available that you can find at sneaker stores. If they still reek, or if they aren't as comfortable as they were, just buy a new pair.
