That's it. No more zip up cardigans, or sneakers. He's
a one way pile of dust now.
I watched him as a kid, along with the Magic Garden
and Romper Room. He was a good presence for
children. Although looking back, he had too much of a
calming presence...like eerie or something.
I'll always remember the episode he visted Bill Bixby on
the set of the Hulk...I always thought that was so cool.
Nonetheless, Mr. Rogers is taking the Trolly to the sky
now. He's not my neighbor anymore.

Put up your rememberences, insults, and jokes here.

I always watched M. Rogers when I was a kid. Now anytime their's news about him my Mother brings up the fact that my Dad hated that I watched it and thought Fred was a fag.

I had the genuine pleasure of meeting Fred Rogers several years ago and spent a few moments speaking with him. In the short time that I spent with him, I found him to be the nicest man I have ever met in my entire life and I came away from the meeting feeling wonderful and ecstatic about the trueness (for lack of a better term) of his persona.

I, for one, mourn his passing significantly.

I did love Mr. Roger and his programming. It was one of those shows I grew up watching.

This is a sad day. I hope PBS does some sort of tribute to this great man.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I loved Mr. Rogers Neighborhood! I always wanted a little Trollie like he did and he had that stop light in his kitchen and he even had one of the 'flat screen' tv's in the picture on his wall and he would show videos of stuff (I still remember the Crayola factory tour). That was the best show when I was little (next to Sesame Street) he will be missed.

This is almost as sad as when Mr. Hooper died on "Sesame Street".

Crap on a stick.

Ah well, he did good...his show made a lot of kids happy, me included. Actually saw him and the rest of the cast at a live appearance when I was like three, and the picture is still up on my wall. A damn fine person all around.

So now it's time,
To say Adieu,
But I'll have more in store for you-
And you'll have thing's
You'll want to talk about-
I will too.

So long, Mr Rogers. You've touched so many lives, created so many smiles, made so many children happy.

Your tools were simple, your world was everyone's quiet escape.

Your Fishtank. Your Trolly. Your neighbors. Your smile and simple innocence.

You taught us to say "please," "thank you," and "yes Ma'am". Not because you had to, but because it was a nice thing to do.

That pretty much sums it up for Mr. Rogers- he was a nice adult who spoke directly to childrens' hearts. He gave them his undivided attention. He acknowledeged them without overdoing silly antics or being subtley condecending.

You never questioned his motives, never wondered why he behaved the way he did, or why he lived in his neighhborhood. All I know was that I went to his house every day, and for a brief moment, I lived in Mr. Roger's neighbood.

Rest in peace, Neighbor!

Such a great influence on children everywhere. I hope that only one day I can bring smiles to the faces of little kids around the world like he did. Definitely one of MY influences and I am kind of bummed out now. If I see a red sweater just hanging there next to the door on a hook, I just may bawl.
I am having a hard time remembering the Mr. Hooper death. Wasn't he still young when he passed. The only thing I do remember was Big Bird crying.

I am having a hard time remembering the Mr. Hooper death. Wasn't he still young when he passed. The only thing I do remember was Big Bird crying.

Nah, Mr. Hooper was pretty old, and passed away naturally...but "Sesame Street" really stepped up and used it as a very gentle platform to teach kids about death without scaring the shit out of them...I was only like 3 or 4, but I remember it clear as day...the "humans" on the show had to explain what had happened to Big Bird, but it was like they were talking to all of us...

really tho, it's a sad day in the neighborhood of make believe. we will all miss the crazy man who talked to toy tains and addressed other adults as if they were children..
he seems like a cool cat who tried to influence children to use their minds for more than video games and really embraced the power & magic of imagination.
beautiful soul. rock on Fred~

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:

thank god muppets don't die

that is a great line. beautiful.

One of Fred Rogers' on-going messages has been, "There's only one person in the whole world like you." So we understand that every child and adult will experience this news in his or her own unique way, from their own relationship with him and from their developmental level.

Children experience death differently than adults do. Young children have a limited understanding of death. Some children may cry. Some may seem callous. You may be surprised to find that you're more upset than your child.

Children have always known Mister Rogers as their "television friend," and that relationship doesn't change with his death.
