It might have of been something similar.

All in all a good article, and I like the way they document the free-format change to the "globalized/corportized/etc". But I guess I feel is a little wrong the way they bastardized O and A and the rest of the talk format. It wasnt around long enough to formally make judgments.

Overall a good article, I especially liked the headline...and the fact that they mention The Replacements in the same line as the Rolling Stones....

It would have been nice if they mentioned Ron and Fez.

As a kid growing up on Long Island, WNEW was "my station" and those DJ's and that music got me through a lot of shit. While it is sad that WNEW has abandoned the talk format, it cannot be overlooked how incredible it was that WNEW was flipped from classic rock to begin with. That move was like going into the Musee du Louvre and all of a sudden finding out it was being used as a Home Depot.

Nope, it was the exact same article. I think it was somewhere on R&R or the NYRMB. CNN just stole it and reported it late, as that is typically their policy.

Since Opie and Anthony were cashiered, the station had no star personalities, and Infinity pulled the plug on January 26. The last Arbitron rating for the station was 0.7 -- a blip on the New York radio radar screen.



maybe if ANYONE payed attention they would have heard what we had thought were STAR personalities!

What pisses me off about this article is the bashing of the new Talk format. They did not recognize Ron and Fez who held the station up after O&A were fired. Also, doncha think it's a MONTH late? I hate US media.

Reading this article saddens me and cheapens my memory of our friends O&A and R&F.

You see, if WNEW were a building, it would have been preserved as a National Historic Landmark.

WNEW was as important to Rock 'n Roll as Graceland, Britain and LA.

Instead of converting to "Hot Talk", the rarified halls of WNEW should have been dedicated to a museum and memorial of Rock.

I am not saying that they shouldn't have changed formats, the times had changed...
but the studios and call letters should have been changed along with the format.

Remember when O&A talked about the "Archives" of Rock music down the hall that no one is allowed in? Wonder if they still have that or if it got sold to a bunch of bargin pickers at a Long Island rummage sale.
