It's fucking true man. I just got the idea in another thread about the guys who got kicked out of the mall for wearing pro-peace T-shirts. I think it was Patches that brought up Malls and their effect on America and he's right.

As I was gigging around the US with UNHALLOWED it became very clear to me that EVERY reigon of the country looks like that last!

I took a lot of stuff with me becuase I was afraid that say, in the middle of Indiana, I'd be without a major store and would have to depend on a small Mom and Pop 5 and dime that was open from noon till 3PM to get my shit from.

Well, try a 24 hour CVS next to a huge mini mall full of Office Maxs and Staples. The SAME SHIT I have around here.

Now SOME may say "Well at least you always have the stores around you need."

But I say that I was MOST excited about driving to different states to see how other people in different areas lived!

But Missouri looked like Alabama. Ohio looked like Wisconson. Illinois looked like Rhode Island. And I just didn't stay near the highways. I know that rest stops will look alike.

The individuality of our states is being lost and it's actually NOT cool. The ONLY place left that is backwards is Pennsylvania! So if you want a place with NOTHING in it, go there!

Naaa. I find him a little too smug and anti-American at times.

No, don't, because none of his books really apply here. What, you're willing to say he should read "Adventures In a TV Nation" because of this? I mean, it is ANY Moore book...and he only has three.

The books "Branded", "Nobrow", "Culture Jam", "Bomb The Suburbs!" and "No Logo" would be far more apropro here.

Pennsylvania: Where girls are so bored, you can get anal.

Pennsylvania: Self service gas because the attendant is drunk.

Pennsylvania: Where a pickup and a 6 pack is a night out.

Pennsylvania: Picking up girls wearing flannel.

But Missouri looked like Alabama. Ohio looked like Wisconson. Illinois looked like Rhode Island.

This is not even remotely true. In fact, gving you the benefit of a doubt and assuming you're talking about mini-malls - or better yet, let's try something even more invasive - the McDonald's - in these various states, I still think you are flat out wrong.

Compare almost any McDonald's in Manhattan to any McDonald's in say Wyoming (admittedly I probably haven't gone to more than 3 in WY but whatever. The same holds trues for any McDonald's across the interior of the country, with the exception of Chicago and maybe St. Louis) - they are entirely different. McDonald's in the midwest is what it should be - pleasant people who are happy to serve you, and the food looks like the pictures!

I think the one thing that always strikes me when I drive across the country (and I've done it a number of times. The only area I haven't driven through is the area sort of in the southeast bordered by Missouri (I've driven through MO) and Tennesee (I've driven through TN) - and texas. I've never been outside the airport there) is how entirely different the states look from the moment you driove across their borders. I've never quite been able to figure it out, but I find it fascinating. Even if you just drive up 95 you can see this; CT definitely does NOT look like RI and RI does NOT look like MA.

Of course if you go into malls they will look alike superficially. Take the time to understand how a K-Mart in Long Island has a different function in the community than a K-Mart in the plains of CO (although I sem to recall that K-Mart wasn't the big store out there; they have some sort of plains state version of K-Mart that was bigger).

I agree with Moe as far as Malls are concerned. It seems that they are all made from the same building plans. Recently, I was in Germany. If it weren't for the difference in the language, I could have sworn I was in Yonkers or on Jericho turnpike!!!

It's all the same shit. Same stores, merchandise, food courts, restaurants....they only vary slightly in set-up. Does it really matter what mall you go to buy cd's, dvd's, clothes, etc....They are all the same stores just in different locations. Almost every mall has the same stores or extremely similar versions of it. It's like deciding between having a Coke or a Pepsi. Variations of the same thing.

i agree.

food as well.

its becoming harder to find that great little store/coffee shop/restaurant/ice cream place.

everything nowadays is a fucking chain and a fucking joke. where's the individuality in all this?
