Easily the WORST singer in Rock & Roll!

I just watched the MTV awards (again!) on MUCHmusic and saw the big Guns & Roses "comeback".
That has got to be the single worst vocal performance ever televised. I gotta ask, where does Axl get that tremendous ego of his? Not only was the quality of his voice absolutely laughable, but his pitch was inexcusable. If he sang two notes in tune.... it was by accident.
I usually get a sadistic thrill out of watching a singer totally bomb onstage (it's kinda like watching a good sports disaster) but this was downright silly. That performance should've been broadcast on REALtv.... not MTV.

I'll put every cover band I was ever in as a child up against the new GnR any day of the week.

If there was is a more inadequate vocalist out there... I can't think of one.

Well, o.k., Axl doesn't have the voice he used to. But between 87-93 they were very, very good and Axl's voice was one of the most unique in rock. I know it was shaky on the MTV awards but he was running around and singing live in front of millions of Americans for the first time in ten years or so; so I think he was a little nervous and rusty. I recently saw them at the garden and while I wasn't fooling myself into thinking "I'm gonna see the real G'N'R" when I was going, I still had a good time. It was sort of G'N'R' meets Raw is War meets Barnum & Bailey with plenty of pyrotechnics that Whitesnake could shake a stick at. But it still delivered on good old fashioned rock and roll. The guitars were great and Axl more than made up for his poor MTV performance. After the longest thread I've ever written, I'd like to finally add that the guy from Creed stinks and I don't like him. HE is the worst singer.

I should have mentioned in my first post that, YES, there was a time when Axl was in fact, a true bad-ass.

My criteria for being a "good" singer is if the singer has a true vocal identity, and Axl DEFINITELY had that going for him. The songs were strong as well. AND.... they were anti-media media darlings, so he truly was a triple threat.

But that MTV performance? Ouch! I'd rather chew on tin-foil that listen to that again.

I agree with the original statement that their MTV appearance was perhaps the single worst live vocal performance of all time....Axl was horrific.

GNR were incredible in the 80's & into the early 90's. Appetite for Destruction is, cut for cut, unarguably one of the best hard rock CDs of all time, but Axl has ruined the warm memories of the band forever. AXL=AWFUL.

I agree with all of the above. I wish Axl would realize that running around on goofy ramps and jumping off goofy platforms can hinder one's vocals, especially when they've been out of practice for a decade. Oh well.



......still, I'll always love GN'R; even if it is a one man freak show.

would have to agree since i saw him at some Music Award show a year or 2 back...

Loved his voice earlier in his career. I saw him do a duet with Tom Petty on Free Falling and it's one of them songs you wish you had made a recording of. I think it was the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary special about 5-8 years ago.
They had the Average White Band and Emerson Lake And Palmer amongst many others...
wish I recorded it...

I read a magazine interview a few months back with Tommy where he said Paul ticked him off for talking smack about the G'nR gig off in his own interviews. According to Tommy, a 'Mats reunion wouldn't be likely EVER...blah...

i take pride in my shitty voice. then again i always hated those good singers and was influenced by folks like westerberg, tom waits,
i really dig keith richards voice..
i never liked any G&R except for their first album. always hated axls voice. i hope he realizes he sucks now.

By the way, I read in Steppin' Out Magazine that Axl threw some sort of tantrum in front of a club that wouldn't let him in because he was wearing Fur, and the band left him outside and broke up right there.

So unless this is a publicity stunt, Guns N Roses is defunct once again.
