I have seen many ads for different "online detectives" software or resources that profess to locate information on anyone anywhere. They say they access thousands of records like criminal, dmv, unlisted phone numbers, bank records, or even e-mail and IM tracking.. etc...not accesable to the average person.
I would love to get some info on a co-worker but these services cost money..

Has anyone ever tried these? or have info about their veracity?
or is this yet another scam?

I recall reading about these in PC Magazine or PC World. (I subscribe to both, and rarely remember which magazine had the article.)

The article said that most information on these disks is in public domain and there is nothing confidential that is revealed. However, w/big search engines like Google, letting you get names and adrresses and driving directions just from inputing a phone number, the amount of information in the public domain is frighteningly large.

I'd save your money.
