SAULT STE. MARIE, Ontario (AP) - Former NHL goalie John Vanbiesbrouck quit as coach and general manager of a junior league hockey team Monday after using a racial slur to describe a black player.

"My comments were inappropriate and out of character and I deeply regret my actions," he said.

Greyhounds captain Trevor Daley quit the team and returned home to Toronto on Saturday after being told Vanbiesbrouck used the slur while talking to other players.

Vanbiesbrouck confirmed using the slur, telling the Sault Star, "I used the n-word instead of calling him Trevor." Vanbiesbrouck acknowledged using it "more than once."

Chris Simon called Mike Grier a monkey, and then they ended up on the same team for a bit...then there was that unfortunate incident in Quebec juniors last year when fans pelted the ice with bananas cause the other team had a black player...
