You people are talking like the US needs this weapon to put them over the top in a close war? The US can and will eventually, easily invade and conquer Iraq. To say this weapon is necissary is a bit much. I do understand Reeshy's point, but give me a break....our military in the last war was far superior...and nowadays...it's even more technologically sound and prevailant. Bombs like these are examples of the US building it's military to a point below nukes or WMD...but enough to do extensive damage...including colateral and civilian. It's a far reach to even remotely think we need such items to invade and be successful.

Actually, he's talking about the effect the bomb would have on civilians who happened to be within the area of the bomb's effective area.

He's wrong in that, from the description of the bomb, it doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would be used in a populated area so much as a deterrent in an open battlefield. Drop one of these bad boys on the front lines and all the guys within the viewing area immediately drop their rifles and surrender. Also, it doesn't sound like a "bunker buster."

I think it's like what they were talking about on the show last night, that this would be used to level a large troop gathering (ie-a millitary base) or an airfield or the like. Dropping this on a civilian area would likely be a last-ditch resort, like the nuke itself.
