i go back and forth on this one.
who do u think had more talent as a songwriter? not just in the beatles, but over all. WINGS vs Lennons solo stuff?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I gotta go with Paul. He was the hook master.
he had all the poppy catchy tunes..
ya i know, they worked as a team in the beatles, but
so does areosmith's Joe perry & steven tyler
but we all know tyler is the brains behind the songs production and arangements & lyrics and a lot of the music.
Lennon was good with lyrics and word play, but gimmie Paul anyday.
JET~ Band on the run? silly love songs? comming up? yesterday?
he was hit machine baby!

I'll take two for one, my son...

I think both were easily and by far at their best when together. Thay managed to each cut out the other's bullshit, something both SORELY needed in their solo careers. Outside of "Band On The Run", "Jet" and "Live and Let Die", all the Wings stuff I've heard is all pretty bland and soulless. Pretty sad, considering Paul has the howl of a great black bluesman.

Paul was the brain, George was the soul, Ringo was
the body, and John was the heart. I gotta go with
John. The only celebrity I ever cried over when he died.
I was 15, and had only "discovered" the Beatles about
a year and a half before. I mean, I used to listen to
"Get Back" on my little record player over and over
again when I was like 4, but when John was killed I
was into the Beatles, and especially John, hardcore.
Love is real
Real is love
Love is feeling
Feeling love
Love is wanting
To be loved
Words are flowing out
like endless rain into a paper cup
The slither wildly as they slip away
Across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy
Are drifting through my opened mind
Possesing and caressing me
Imagine....

George. Sorry, but he was a better musician than both of them. The ego trips that John and Paul kept him from being able to put much of his work on beatles albums, but when they broke up, he came out with "all things must pass" and blew everyone away.

I'd say Paul.
However, I truly believe (to borrow a hackneyed expression) that Paul " jumped the shark when he released "McCartney II" with that awful single "Coming Up". Nothing since then has really been much good in my opinion.

Agreed. And one of the best Beatles songs of all time is "If I Needed Someone".

They were just talking about that song the other day on wFUV, about how the melody was inspired by one of the songs (i forget which) by the Byrds (i think it had to do with the George tribute album that's coming out)

Take your pick on which Byrds song it was -- George played it on an electric 12-string (Roger McGuinn's trademark). One of the best and most underrated Harrison/Beatles tunes.
As for the original question, I'll go with John. I partly base this on the fact that McCartney's become such a tool since Linda died as well as the fact that John's "Plastic Ono Band" is, with "All Things Must Pass", the best solo Beatle album.

Paul is the absolute best. If John Lennon didn't get shot, he would have already had at least a dozen comedy pyramids about what a failure he is today.

"The Bells of Rhymney" has the Rickenbacker lick George co-opted (he sent Mc Guinn a copy of the song with a thanks). Where did Mc Guinn get the idea of using the Rick? From "A Hard Days Night". I believe George had the 2nd -12 String produced by Rickenbacker. As for me,I'm glad I got to enjoy them all .

I must disagree. to me, no guitar sounds better, or is more versitile than a Telecaster.

Lennon all the way.
Though both put out some crap and got disgustingly pussy-whipped, is there any worse song than "Cook of the House"?
