The UN is such a Joke

The UN was supposed to be an improvement of the failed League of Nations. After WWI the league of nations was formed and Germany was ordered to pay war reperations and not build up their army. In 1933 Adolf Hitler came to power and we all know what happened after that.

The UN was created after the second world war and it is no better. As the worlds only superpower why should we constantly ask permission from an organization with no credibility. For gods sake Libya was admited to the council of human rights.

Enough is enough with this pathetic organization

All I ever hear from people on this board is how the UN is such a joke and such. Then why don't you all start contacting your representatives, senators, and officials? It's obvious the US contributes large amounts to keep the UN running...and considering it is the people's tax money they are spending, why don't you do something rather then just complain? Many of you make fun of antiwar protesters and view minority opinions with jest...but at least many of the people are trying to do something rather then just say how much the UN or a particular policy sucks. If the UN is not the answer...then what is?

Ps...And I'm not referring to those 3 idiots who were destroying property and such or people like them.

it comes down to matters of opinion.
what is not opinion is why the UN was created...check it out on their website. they have all the charters and documents there.
it was created to head off the possibilities of war. from there, it worked into human rights, and then 30+ other agencies which effect everybody on this planet.
in my humble opinion, it's all out of wack, and can easily be a manipulated and catastrophic organization. the power and pull it can yield by just a few manuverings and words is something i would rather not think about.
i read it's 19 chapters of declarations, and it's millennium declaration also.
i do have to say i am genuinely surprised that not once...not even an inquiry document on their website or on the International Court's website was found concerning Iraq and the genocide of Kurds/minorities, or Anfal.
in reading the pages upon pages of material, i kept referring to what is going on now with Iraq and also terrorism. i can see how the UN would love to diffuse the situation without war, but i can not understand its overall ignorance over Iraq, what Iraq has done, and what it continues to do today. in as much, and i know - more hotly disputed, the UN's approach to the Palestinians and Israelis. it really does seem like the UN backs off of Israeli problems and pushes when Palestinians take up argument. (and it still boggles me why the Palestinians did not take the camp david offer under Clinton's administration...it was everything they wanted)
This all could have been avoided if we listened to George Patton at the close of WWII. We should have went into Berlin for one, thereby never knowing a split Germany. We should have then marched right into Moscow, closing off a future cold war. You have no idea the historical implications that would have made concerning the world, the US, and the UN.
it seems tragic that the UN was founded to prevent war, but in doing so, may actually start the biggest war the world will ever see...may it NEVER happen.
too bad Patton liked France and all their saber masters...we should have taken over Paris for ourselves. which is easier to take over? Iraq or France?

Ike asked how many casualties we would get if we went into berlin, and he got the estimates of 100,000 men, which he thought was way too high for something we would have to give up anyway because it had already been agreed upon at the Tehran conference that the russians would get berlin. I remember reading about a Russian veteran talking about it later..he said "We should have just surrounded it and waited, but that son of a bitch Stalin didn't wanna listen, so we went right in there with all those crazy Nazi kids..and we bled."

Although at this time I think the UN is a joke, I think it's better to have it than not.

I just think it needs a tune up.

I definitely don't want it to disapear.

I don't like the way people seem to want to hand over our sovereignty to the UN, but we do need to think in a more global sense.

The UN is a GREAT idea. But as we know, when you finally bring some ideas into being and try them out, they don't always work.

If the UN has become a body that will only discuss and NOT act when action is need then we should kick them out of that HUGE building in NYC and deal with things ourselve like we end up doing anyway.
